A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Today is "National Anthem Day"

The Star-Spangled Banner

***********************

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight'
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen, thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream;
'Tis the star-spangled banner: oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that has made and preserved us as a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust";
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Tune: Anacreon in Heaven

The background appears as a very attractive dark red on my screen, too.

Beautiful job, Dansy! And on such short notice! To me, patriotic threads are the 'easiest' to do - but also the 'hardest'- trying to decide which graphics to use! Yours are just perfect! Especially love this one in #2 post!

Nothing prettier than our red, white, and blue!

Well lookee here! Mama_Bear, dutchess, and aquamarine are still in bed!!

How'd you know? LOL! Was up half the night with a stomach ache so I have my excuse.

And I was up half the night watching local election results come in.....that's my excuse. ;-)

Hope you feel better today, Aqua.

Anyone else see "bright" red?

Not I. It is a deep, rich red. Very nice with the navy and muted gold. Looks great. :-)

Hmmm.....very interesting, dansy. Yesterday Billie posts the words to the National Anthem (with typo), obviously knowing that it would be your topic today. A blatant attempt to take the luster out of your presentation. No doubt you are greatly distressed by this. I know I am.....

Will this in-fighting and backstabbing amongst the hostesses ever cease?

:-)

'Morning, Pip - thank you for your message - am happy to hear your sister's surgery went well, and she's recovering as expected.
