It really galls me that the news ninnies do not attach more importance to this newsworthy event.

brine is just a term for water saltier than saltwater.

Brine shrimp live in brine, but "brine" doesn't mean life was found.

We've found that there are life forms that live in extreme temperatures.

It's possible there is microscopic life "in" mars.

That announcement (which I believe will eventually come) will shake the world.

Will Jake Bussey show up and try to wreck the scientists plans???

That's the understatement of the year.
Is there a possibility that mass flooding occurred followed by evaporation or is that putting the cart before the horse?

I agree. I showed my son and husbanad a photo today that was posted on another thread. I am was a geologist, my husband was a mining engineer, and my son took earth science courses. All three of us agreed it looked like a crinoid fossil.

The implications of fossils on Mars need to be thought through and such an announcement is not to be made lightly.

Interesting, I wonder if they'll direct the rovers towards a specific search for fossils.

Nope. The rovers aren't designed for it. It would have to be some big obvious non-microscopic fossil they stumbled over, which is unlikely.

They're talking about the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter that will look for ancient hot springs and geysers......

I wonder how Richard C. Hoaxland is going to interpret this.

If the evolution "structure" of beings on earth is based on survival of the fittest, and if mars is "different" from the earth, there is no reason to believe that humans or any like beings would evolve under different conditions. It's simply not necessary. Oh my, I haven't thought this hard since school.

Bang, spark, life, evolution.

Big Bang theory has nothing to do with Evolution. Or abiogenesis. Evolution has nothing to do with abiogensis, or Big Bang theory. Your string of logic makes about as much sense as: Pudding, diesel engine, hairdresser, platypus. I guess that disproves platypuses.

I'm waiting for them to find an SUV!
Here's how it goes: Mars was the birthplace of humanity.
We evolved there, built a society, including SUVs. Greenhouse effect, global warming, evaporated the water, got to a critical point of heat, and *whoosh* there goes the atmosphere. What's left is a cold, dead stone.
Good thing some of our ancestors got away and came to Earth before it all happened.

Did they say in absolute terms they found liquid water? They have a way of sort of saying things without really coming out and undeniably saying them.

No, they said there had been liquid water there at one time.

Did they say in absolute terms they found liquid water?

Yes, they have.

However, they are NOT certain there was an actual lake or ocean.
