[history]
Twelve-year-old Sophie Flores thought her dog would love the Sears rubber basketball she bought at a yard sale near her Pollock Pines, Calif., home. When Sophie and her mom got back home, the dog was drooling to get his mouth all over the ball, reports the Sacramento Bee. Then her dad noticed something. "There was writing on it," John Flores told the newspaper. "I told Sophie, 'Wait a minute. Let me see that.'"

I thought Kareem was just the guy who played the pilot in "Airplane," you mean he really played basketball?

"Wait a minute! I know you, You're Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers."
"Sorry kid, you must have me confused with someone else."
"I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try ... except during the playoffs."
"The hell I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!"

"I have some news from The Pentagon."
"The Pentagon, What is it?"
"It's a big building with officers in it. But that doesn't matter."

I heard that Jabbar was going to open a donut shop with boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard, and NY Islanders hall of Famer, Paul Cofee.
It was going to be called "Cofee with Kareem & Sugar"....ba-dump bump!

A huge percentage of sports autographs are fake. The guy had this one "authenticated" -- but what does that really mean? The dog story could be clever marketing.
Or I could be hopelessly cynical.

I smell a lawsuit from whoever was putting on the garage sale. I seem to recall somebody selling some Titanic boading passes a few years ago for a fraction of what the buyer re-sold them for and then suing to get a share of the profits.
