NO MEL GIBSON AT OSCARS

Sun Feb 29 2004 13:01:38 ET

A major no-show at tonight's Academy Awards in Hollywood will be Mel Gibson.

The Executive Producer of the program, Joe Roth asked the filmmaker of PASSION OF THE CHRIST to present an award, knowing it would create unforgettable sparks.

The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed.

His representatives said Gibson was too busy to attend because it was the movie's opening weekend.

Not to worry. For those Mel fans out there "Braveheart" will be shown in it's entirety on the USA Network at the same time tonight :^) Life is good.

Rumors around the 'net are that ABC will allow Bush and Passion bashing run rampant without any time limit, and that this is Hollywood's battle cry for gay marriage and try to connect support for Passion is anti-gay marriage.

A sick sick bunch.

Make note of the sponsers of this sorry Marie Antoinette-style affair.

Considering the audience, he'd be lucky to escape being stoned.

Or crucified.

"The LA TIMES reports that Gibson let the offer expire because, Roth says, he was afraid of being booed."

THIS crowd wouldn't boo, they would shriek: "GIVE US BARABBAS!"

Mel doesn't have to sully himself to appear before his angry, hate-filled, hypocritical peers. The Passion's box office take alone after tonights Oscar presentation is answer enough to his hedonistic, shallow, limousine liberal, cash-loving critics.

Some how the words, Mel Gibson, and afraid, don't seem to belong in the same sentence.

Mel Gibson at the Oscars, followed by Barbara Walters scintillating interview with Matt Leblanc would have been too much excitement to bear.

I would have loved to see those who DO support Mel stand up like the crowd at the Tonight Show did.

Good. I have a sneaking suspicion that what would really happen if he showed up would be a few of the nuttiest sourpusses scowling and sitting, while most of the audience would give him a standing ovation, not out of respect, but rather rushing to climb on the public opinion bandwagon.

Thankfully these hypocrites won't get the chance to try and fool America once again.

At the risk of giving creedance to any rumor I didn't myself start, these bizzaro lefties are energizing the conservative base better than anything President Bush could ever do. It's the Wellstone Funeral Rally writ large.

I would love to see Mel getting booed by a group of narsissitic, sel-indulgent nihilistic millionaires. Meanwhile his movie passes the 100m mark

My "cynic alarm" is going off again, but its usually more right than wrong.

We'll see a bunch of washed up dishrags (see Susan Sarandon) simper across the stage, who will then try to steal the term "Passion" and corrupt it for PC purposes.

I can just see it now:

Johnny Depp - "The real 'passion' in America is for peace"

Tim Robbins - "Americans should demonstrate their 'passion' when it comes to fighting AIDS"

Michael Moore - "MY passion is to oust deserter George W. Bush!"

Sorry to gross you out, but its why I'm NOT watching Oscar, even though "Rings" is up for the gold.

Gibson's "letting the offer expire" tells me that he did not deign to reply to these godless twits. Ignoring them is its own punishment. Good for Mel.

Yeah! Like the ones who were booing Michael Moore, only giving Mel a ten-minute ovation.

It's great to see them publicly shed their skin, but I'm hurt for Mel Gibson. Not that he needs me to be, he's a grown man he knew what he was getting into. But it wreaks havoc with my sense of fair play to see him villified in this manner, and I will not forget it.

Put yourself in his shoes, and think for just a moment about the tremendous stress he's undergone at the hands of these villifiers? This began a year ago. Imagine being only able to witness it? When I do, the not-so-pretty Italian comes out in me.
