For the GOP: Rauschenberger (Chicago Tribune Endorsement)
The Chicago Tribune ^ | 2-29-2004 | Editorial Staff

Posted on 02/29/2004 4:48:15 AM PST by TheRightGuy

The campaign for the U.S. Senate has been dominated by big-spenders, at least if you use the TV ads and the polls as a guide.

For those who are mesmerized by fat campaign bank accounts, it should be remembered that just two years ago in a Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, little-known and lightly funded Jim Durkin defeated two opponents who vastly outspent him.

Can that happen again?

If it does, Republican Party voters will have cast aside the television blitz to find the one candidate who has a long and unmatched public record of independence and effectiveness. That is state Sen. Steven Rauschenberger, who is endorsed today by the Tribune.

... snip ...

... we have watched him for 11 years since he came to the Illinois Senate, and it has been an absolutely exceptional performance.

... snip ...

In this primary field Rauschenberger brings by far the greatest experience and the greatest depth of thought on national issues. He would deliver the kind of creative leadership and integrity that Illinois has enjoyed from U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde, who has endorsed Rauschenberger.

... snip...

Voters, though, don't have to guess about Steve Rauschenberger. He has served them with unquestioned integrity and intelligence for more than a decade. He has done the job, and he has earned their support on March 16.

I would be willing to climb out of my coffin to vote for Bush in November no worry about that.

You live in Chicago ... that is allowed ... even more than once.

In Chicago I don't even have to climb out just have the precinct captains drag it over.

Obama couldn't beat black panther Bobby Rush in the primary (and I live in his district, about half the Dems and ALL the Republicans hate Bobby... if it weren't for two other Dems splitting the "opposition" vote with Obama, Rush would be gone)

That said, if you're vote in the RAT primary for the BIGGEST LOSER, you gotta go with Blair Hull! Hey, he was polling no. #1 a few weeks ago, this egomanic could still throw enough money at the Dems to bribe them all and pull it off!

Wouldn't it be great to face off with that empty suit in the general? Check out his credentials:

*Lifelong liberal Democrat from Chicago, scorns all the little people in Illinois (the other 75% of us) who don’t live in the city, but he still wants our votes!

*Married and divorced a paltry three times, ex-wives avoid him like the plague, divorce records say he used to tell ‘em “I’m going to f---ing kill you, you f---ing c—t”

*Hates Bush with a passion but was conviently “too busy” to vote against him last time, even though Hull’s been registed to vote for years.

*Has zero political experience, elected OR appointed, doesn’t even do GOTV efforts for the party. Usually too busy doing laps around his swimming pool filled with money.

*Has spent nearly 30 million dollars in the PRIMARY – twice the $$$ Fitzgerald spent for the entire election in 1998 – and uses the money to run around denouncing how “fiscally irresponsible” and “spendthrift” President Bush is.

*Thinks he’s really special and “understands” working people because he happened to have a blue-collar job 40 YEARS AGO in college, you know, like everyone else on the planet.

*Probably managed to graduate from college SOMEWHERE, although I can’t be sure because his website doesn’t seem to want to bring it up

*Made billions gambling in Vegas and uses the money to drive his limo around Chicago and denounce the evil “rich” Republicans.

*Young, female houseguest mysteriously “died” at his estate a few months back.

From his own website: “Blair is an outspoken supporter of a woman’s right to choose, currently serves on the national board of NARAL Pro-Choice America, and is actively involved with Planned Parenthood” (he eagerly mentions this in his bio, you don’t even have to go to the issues page to get the idea)

*Would fervently back the Kyoto Protocol, which was voted down by 99 Senators (if only Blair had been there!), that lovely treaty that punished the U.S. for “polluting” but let “developing” countries like China pollute all they want!

*Blair Hull “believes the rural economy and agriculture of Illinois are an important part of our way of life, and a way of life worth preserving”, but nobody knows how he came to realize this, since Blair is all for more urban sprawl and wouldn’t be caught dead living in a rustic community

*Blair opposes privatization “schemes” that would shift Social Security funds into individual accounts to be used in the stock market and other “risky” investments (the kind of investments that he made BILLIONS from)... He will also oppose Republican efforts to privatize the system. Blair’s doesn’t have to worry because all you young punks will pay for HIS social security.

*Blair Hull is really outranged that “the Bush tax cut” is benefiting the "wealthy", instead of the “working class”. Of course, there’s no need for billionaire Blair to set an example and donate HIS share of the tax cut towards the “working class”. He’s too busy using it to fund his Senate campaign!

GO BLAIR GO!! MARION BLAIR HULL JR. is my endorsement on the RAT side.

Hey, BB hope everything is going well with you.

You make a persuasive case but I think the RATS have already sunk Blair thus the next best loser is Obama. But, being an old Uncle Scrooge fan, I do have a soft spot in my heart for money-filled swimming pool swimmers.

However, this will be a last minute decision on my part.

Count our blessings. 7 of 8 are better than Jim Ryan, not to mention George Lyin....on taxes, spending, guns, abortion, corruption and.....

Steve is the best of a great group. I've been with him in crowds that disagreed with him on guns and life. He stood firmly for concealed carry, etc. He is the best because
1) He will do the best job in committee in Washington, where the deals are cut and the devil is in the details.
2) He has no personal skeletons (unless cigarettes is a skeleton in your mind).
3) He is the most effective voice for our side in the media. Note his endorsement by "liberals" like talkshow host Jay Marvin. Why? Honesty.
4) He does his homework and knows his stuff.

I agree that if one wants a GOP US Senate candidate that is the most gotcha!-proof / collapse-proof, Rauschenberger seems to be that man.

And we need a guy like that.

JACK! no showed again at major Cook County GOP sponsored debate tonight in Hickory Hills. He took a big hit for it. Entrance poll 20% ... exit poll 4%.

I wonder what Jack! is up to, missing such an event. Whatever it is, I'm guessing he would intend to finish strong in paid media. He seems to be one to plan and hang back unless/until he believe's he has an advantage. Maybe his investor mentality is coming to bear -- an aloof approach similar to Fitzgerald? I think he needs to be a better salesman though and not just an order taker, because he hasn't closed the deal yet.

Last night Dan Proft was looking quite haggard and, if possible, appeared even seedier than usual. The long slicked back (almost oily looking hair) the unshaven (yet not necessarily bearded face), dressed entirely in black? -- what's that all about. He's beginning to take on the Satanic proportions of Randall Flagg.

At any rate, when he greeted me, I asked, "Hey Dan, tough week?"

He gave me a sideways glance and replied, "They're all tough weeks."

Who knows what goes on behind the curtain at JACK!O's Neverland.

Well I doubt he's turning into Grima Wormtongue. The thick of the campaign can be pretty draining, either to someone to keeps his day job, or who spends 100 hours per week on the campaign(s) proper. "Been there...." That, to say nothing about having another important business/publication, "on the side."

Remember seeing those photos of Civil War generals in the field?   ;-`

God bless Dan. Bless 'em all.
