TOLEDO, Ohio -- Presidential candidate John F. Kerry said yesterday that he supports amending the Massachusetts Constitution to ban gay marriage and provide for civil unions for gay couples.

In his most explicit remarks on the subject yet, Kerry told the Globe that he would support a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would prohibit gay marrriage so long as, while outlawing gay marriage, it also ensured that same-sex couples have access to all legal rights that married couples receive.

What a silly statement.

Know what his supporters are thinking? That Kerry is just lying to the rest of us, and that he'll do what they think he will after he's elected.

You're exactly right. They'll, um, swallow and move on. They'll deal with Kerry once he gets in office. For now they'll be silent.

No, Kerry went too far and they will not like it. The floodgates have been opened. A state constitutional amendment will make it too difficult for the activist judges to strike down. Gays will not accept being told to go to the back of the bus and shut up. Just watch California.

Rush did say Rove is working to obliterate the democrat party.

In what time scale? This year? A decade from now? The next ice age?

I couldn't disagree more. In fact, have you readKerry's statement? If they passed what Kerry says he supports, homos would have marriage rights embedded in the constitution! How could they oppose someone that supports that?

Kerry would then work for federal homosexual unions, thus neutering DMA.

well he only gets this election to try.

Consider this, every state legislature candidate will now have to anser the question of: do you support the FMA?

Will you vote to keep marriage one man one woman IN THE UNITED STATES. Every two bit legislator has become national at least for this one issue.

Every legislator will have to pass the marriage test.

As the education campaigns gear up, the civil union notion will fade in comparison.

Practically, you are right. What Kerry proposes would be a big boost for gays. But gays view themselves the same as african-americans, and they will not accept some 'separate but equal' polciy. They see that as bigotted. Gay activists want marriage. Civil unions just won't cut it. This is an emotional issue for them.

The latest poll has Kerry ahead of Edwards in California 60% to 19%. There is no way Edwards is even competitive. Anyone who thinks so belongs in Fantasyland.

the mantra of "gays" is now to accept civil unions and outlaw marriage. Make all government "unions" civil unions. Just abolish the "m" word from the law completly.
Thus there would be no common law entaglements of children and it could be shaped by the courts.

This is actually good news, despite his obvious insincerity. This will marginalize the homophile crowd and make it all the more likely that Mass. will approve its DOMA amendment, thus saving us the need to worry about amending the U.S. Constitution, which is not something we want to be doing unless absolutely necessary anyway.

So he will ban gay marriage as long as he can mandate gay unions? Semantics.

It's not just semantics. Civil unions can't be imposed on other states, as Vermont's example shows. But as soon as it becomes "marriage", there's the threat that federal courts will force states to accept it via the "full faith and credit" clause.

At least I'm pretty sure that's the issue here.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Ping me if you want on or off this ping list!

Kerry is dodging and twirling, apparently.

Fool.

When a person has no strong inner convictions of right and wrong, and tries to stand up for same, he winds up like - Kerry. To have self-interest as one's guiding light leaves one open to the breeze of shifting public opinion. Such people become shameful and despicable.
