TOLEDO, Ohio -- Presidential candidate John F. Kerry said yesterday that he supports amending the Massachusetts Constitution to ban gay marriage and provide for civil unions for gay couples.

In his most explicit remarks on the subject yet, Kerry told the Globe that he would support a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would prohibit gay marrriage so long as, while outlawing gay marriage, it also ensured that same-sex couples have access to all legal rights that married couples receive.

He has only one operating principle: say whatever needs to be said to get him elected.

TRANSLATION: Kerry is scarred!!!!

It is a convenient position since he can't vote on the subject.

If homosexual marriages happen on May 17. Look for renewed endless videos of homosexuals kissing and prancing. Edwards OR Kerry will be toast if that happens.

Also at that point, the FMA will be pushed up a notch and have reached critical mass. Domas will start to fall "somewhere". Congress will have no choice.

So sorry Mr. Kerry, but the people in Texas were opposed to Sodomy and Gommorah until the SCOTUS overturned their will several months ago. The simple solution would be for Congress, of which you are a member, to remove the Federal courts from the authorization to decide cases of a sexual nature from the jurisdiction of the Federal courts and remand them to the states. Congress has this power vested in the Constitution but we don't want to mention this, do we?

It was not just texas affected. The USSC specifically zapped ALL STATES with similar laws. They were not even a party and found out they should have been.

Its a federal issue now. There is NO WAY to hide from that fact. It needs a federal AND, unfortunatly, constitutional solution. period.

He sounds like a liberal moderate. He sits around waiting for a consensus to be formed and then joins it.

I truly think Tuh-Ray-Suh wears the pants in their house. Kerry spent his time waffling and tap dancing around the issue. Tuh-Ray-Suh said Bush's proposal is divisive, now Kerry backs gay marriage.

It is only one day.

McCain was on pmsnbc and he was saying to still leave it to the states, and let the courts work it out.

This is wrong. It has to be prevented BEFORE the courts rule.

I read here on FR, that DC has a ver large homosexual population working there. I wonder how many of them are working "for" congressional reps?

Here's what I wrote yesterday, which is kind of funny now because Kerry considered today's postion bigotted.

After the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling imposing gay marriage against the will of the people and the legislature, John Kerry told reporters on May 5, 2002, “I personally believe the court is not right…I don't support marriage. I never have. That's my position.” Yesterday, after President Bush announced his support of a Constitution Amendment banning gay marriage, Kerry reiterated that position, "I oppose gay marriage. I also oppose President Bush's attempt to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage,"

Just exactly how does Kerry ‘oppose’ gay marriage? Kerry opposes, at least for now, amending the US Constitution. Also, Kerry was one of only 14 Senators who voted against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996, which would have banned federal recognition of gay marriage for the purpose of any federal benefits. In his opposition, Kerry went as far as calling the DOMA, "unconstitutional, unprecedented, unnecessary and mean-spirited bill," and compared the law to the 1960’s efforts in the south to criminalize interracial marriages.

Kerry has also attacked the federal efforts as an infringement on states rights. However, when Massachusetts tried to act on their own to ban gay marriage in 2002, Kerry signed a letter which stated, "We believe it would be a grave error for Massachusetts to enshrine in our Constitution a provision which would have such a negative effect on so many of our fellow residents."

So, Kerry is on record as believing a ban on gay marriage is not only bigoted and hateful, but is also 'unconstitutional' on the federal level and a ‘grave error’ on the state level. Just how exactly does Kerry oppose gay marriage, and which reported will be brave enough to ask the tough questions?
