TOLEDO, Ohio -- Presidential candidate John F. Kerry said yesterday that he supports amending the Massachusetts Constitution to ban gay marriage and provide for civil unions for gay couples.

In his most explicit remarks on the subject yet, Kerry told the Globe that he would support a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would prohibit gay marrriage so long as, while outlawing gay marriage, it also ensured that same-sex couples have access to all legal rights that married couples receive.

The usual Kerry answer. I am against it but for it. I'm against it but don't want anything done about it. Can you see what kind of president he would make. After a terrorist attack on our country, he would say I'm against this sort of thing but I don't want to do anything about it. Let someone else work it out.

They why did Kerry vote against the Defense of Marriage Act? You can bet he won't be asked at the CNN debate tonight...

Voted against it? On the Senate floor he called the bill bigoted and hateful. Kerry compared it to banning interreacial marriages.

I am gonna make this prediction right now. Kerry just lost California. This dem race is going to the convention.

That would be fun, but I think the fix is in. Want proof? Watch the debate tonight.

Just because they attempt to fix it, doesn't make it happen. That was a stupid move for Kerry before the California primary. He is toast in California. Bet on it.

Does this issue grow Bush's coat tails.

Think about it, does this unite the legislators to the president? I say yes. Send the STATE legislator who will support FMA to the capital.

This is a brilliant manuver if it can be pulled off. Rush did say Rove is working to obliterate the democrat party.

Maybe, I just hope Kerry doesn't self-destruct too soon.

Didn't do him any harm in MA. Know what his supporters are thinking? That Kerry is just lying to the rest of us, and that he'll do what they think he will after he's elected. Toon did the same thing. Then screwed his supporters. These people never learn. But they deserve what they get for trusting liars.

And hitler screwed over his brownshirt officers (primarily homosexuals)

It seems every socialist pulls the manuver of adopting a radical fringe group, uses them to get into power, and discards them until re-election or return to power time.

In his most explicit remarks on the subject yet, Kerry told the Globe that he would support a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would prohibit gay marrriage so long as, while outlawing gay marriage, it also ensured that same-sex couples have access to all legal rights that married couples receive.

"Gay unions with access to all legal rights?" More word games. Kerry is again on both sides of the issue. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) states that,

"In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word 'marriage' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word 'spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife."

The reason for this clause is that the Federal government needs to have a definition of marriage in order to administer social security, federal pension plans, and survivors benefits just to name a few. The DOMA currently defines marriage and spouse, but without a Constitutional amendment, the courts can declare DOMA unconstitutional. The Federal government cannot avoid this issue and hide its head in the sand.

Kerry voted against DOMA and Edwards said he would have also if he had been in the Senate at the time. I wish someone would ask Kerry and Edwards what definition of marriage the Federal government should use to administer its programs. It would be very difficult for them to wiggle off of that hook.

The worst that Kerry could finish in California is second, which will give him a sizable portion of the delegates anyway. Moreover, Edwards holds essentially the same postion on gay marriage as Kerry. The race is over and has been for many weeks.

He does, but Kerry coming forward and supporting a state Constitutional which codifies in stone separate but equal, is too far for the gay activists to accept. There will be backlash. If Edwards wants this race to be competitive, all he has to do is go all in and oppose such a state admendment as too extreme and hateful. That will give him California and all the momentum he needs to make this race interesting.

Something that I find interesting is DU is not discussing this. I think they are banning and pulling threads, because this is the number one issue with a lot of the DUers. I think DU is trying to prevent the destruction of Kerry.
