San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom came out roaring against what he terms President Bush's shameful call Tuesday for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and challenged fellow Democrats to stand firm against the proposal.
The president has "tried to divide this country in order to advance his political career by messing with the Constitution,'' Newsom said at a City Hall press conference following Bush's comments from the White House.

The audacity is unbelieveable.
I saw him on H&C; what a weasel. Can somebody tell me what HE is getting out of all this?

He gets to keep his job when he is up for re-election? Remember, he almost lost to a GREEN candidate in the last election (well okay, maybe not almost lost...but the Green candidate DID put up a considerable fight).

"It is a terrible day because of what the president of the United States has decided to do to divide the United States of America. That, I think, is shameful."
This piece of trash condemning the President has no concept of what the word shameful means!
I read the other day that he is Ed Asner's nephew - so that might explain his lunacy.

LOL, Newsom is the perfect mayor for San Fransicko.
And when he's all used up, the city can go back to the same bathhouse and find another mayor just like him.

Gavin Newsome = Mayor of a modern-day Gomorrah.
George W. Bush = President of the United States and Leader of the Free World.

The dip-weed mayor doesn't appreciate that Bush isn't even attempting outlawing what he did. Bush wants this to be a true state rights issue what is done in SF doesn't have to be honored in TX.

Anybody else here from California? I have been listening to this on talk radio stations - lots of people are against what Newsom has done, and a lot of them think this hurts the dem's chances of beating President Bush this November, so-called "handing" the election over to President Bush.

I found this very interesting: http://www.bibleplus.org/discoveries/sodomfound.htm

"Any Twosome Newsom" will find that in the rest of the country the 5% that are queer don't have the stroke they do in San Francisco. He thinks the country is "divided" over this? What a joke.

What difference does a constitutional amendment make to this would-be gay Martin Luther King since he is flouting the laws of the land already? Won't he just flout the new laws too?

I can't believe people of good conscience, from any ideological perspective, can honestly say that the Constitution should be used to take rights away from people, when the Constitution was conceived to advance the rights of people in this country...Given the problems he is having with the concept of being a nation of laws and the purpose of representative government, he might consider passing on public comments on the Constitution.

Unlike Massachusetts, which has by judicial decree been ordered to allow gay marriage per their constitution,California has not recognized these marriages.
The court will be the battleground to challenge California law as unconstitutional..He simply circumvented the process of challenging in court and broke the law..It was all symbolic unless affirmed by the courts.
