John Kerry opposes gay marriage, too. Today was the first day he came out in favor of the amendment.

Kerry voted against the defense of marriage so if he's for an amendment,he's just upped his batting average on flip flops.

Time will tell just how long he'll hold that position. He's got a long storied history of flip-flopping and taking 4 sides to 1 issue. Until I see a direct quote in it's entirety, I'm not entirely sure he's firmly for this proposal, or just saving political skin.

Barbara Boxer has been opposing gay marriage for the last 3 weeks, while spending a Senatorial lifetime fighting for the gay rights lobby. Barney Frank, a known gay representative from Massachusetts has been against gay marriages for 3 weeks, yet he's been fighting for gay rights his entire political career. Yeah, John Kerry is for Bush's proposal, he was once for going to war in Iraq, but ever since running for President, he's been dead set against it.

Bush on the other hand has been steadfast in his position against gay marriages as far back as his acceptance speech at the 2000 RNC convention in Philadelphia and on through the 3 debates with the Goron, right up to today.

Therefore, I believe the argument becomes economic. Do employers now have to pay benefits for all spouses, no matter how many?

Employers would just charge more for each "partner" to be covered, like they do today with children.

Daschle's state should be Dubya's first stop. The next stops should be in states of other RATs up for election. If I had his ear, I would do a couple of fundraisers too:) LOL

God really does want our President re-elected, doesn't he?

You wrote: "John Kerry opposes gay marriage, too. Today was the first day he came out in favor of the amendment."

Well, according to the NYT, "This afternoon, the Kerry campaign issued a statement in which the senator criticized the president's announcement and said he would vote against such an amendment."

and in Kerry's own words: “While I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, for 200 years, this has been a state issue. I oppose this election year effort to amend the Constitution in an area that each state can adequately address, and I will vote against such an amendment if it comes to the Senate floor."

Your statement was wrong but it really doesn't matter. It's an issue before Congress...not the President and not a Nominee. All they can do is try to drive the issue.

The "he" is Bush. I was sloppy in my pronoun use.

I've never seen you accuse President Bush of pandering to any group.

And what's your point? That I can't when I think he is?

Are you really so jaded by internet disputes that, when the President agrees with your "enemies", you must then disagree with him?

Leave to a pretender like you to think that somebody would take a stance like that simply because they don't like somebody. Very telling.

Contrary to what you may think, this isn't a word game.

I find HGTV a welcome diversion from the TV chatterers and have found myself watching its programs more and more these days. And I too learn a lot about decorating my home w/out knowing or caring about the hosts' sexual persuasions.

You know the thing I don't get, everyone is getting their bowels in an uproar over the gay marriage thing, but the thing I don't get is why we, and that's any of us, have to ask the government to get married in the first place.

No one seems to want to address that question.

Lighten up Francis. After what liberal judges are trying to do to this country, i'm entitled to some hyperbole.

Folks, the timing was superb. Bear in mind that Bush has just made both Kerry and Edwards go on the record with this issue prior to Super Tuesday.

I certainly hope that the timing of the President's announcement had nothing to do with Super Tuesday, nor do I see any point to such timing, as Kerry and Edwards are running against each other.

The issue at hand is preserving the institution of marriage, which is the cornerstone of Western Civilization.

Apparently some people don't understand that there is a most auspicious time to do things like this. I had no doubt there would be an amendment after I saw that Massachusetts decision.

The CMA has been around since last June, when Lawrence v. Texas made it clear one would be necessary.

Bill Frist was one of the first on board, on the 28th or 29th of that month.
