February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

The thought of kerry being president is more than I can deal with.

Granny, the results of a 2/12-2/15 CBS poll show as follows

Rosenthal allowed that polls show “an overwhelming majority” of Bush voters would re-elect him, but she sought out a Kerry operative to justify her approach: “‘The strong Republicans are with him,’ a senior aide to Senator John Kerry said of Mr. Bush. ‘But there are independent-minded Republicans among whom he is having serious problems.’”

Yes, I've been wondering about him. I was looking into how quickly cyanide works. We would be able to discover it rather quickly, whether if was sprayed or dumped in a city's watersystem.

Seems to me that possibly Russia had its "largest military exercise in 25 years" not only for Putin's benefit, but to remind us that they will quickly respond if we were to be hit and retaliate against them. Some of the wording they used at the time of the exercise seemed to suggest that they were concerned that we might abruptly attack them. It was interesting wording, all things considered. Now, why would we even consider attacking them?

There may be more guns here, but there are not enough REAL Americans to man them.

I have mixed feelings about this one. Most people have become very tamed, and would hesitate to man their gun. But, if things got bad enough, I think there is enough memory of the good days of America that we could have quite a bit of people fight.

Half of us are supporting the UN.

I thought that during the American Revolution, 1/3 of the people were British Loyalist, 1/3 of the people didn't care either way, and 1/3 supported the Rebellion. We might have a similar breakdown of numbers today.

But we won't need the guns, that half has us defeated, go and read the stories about the voting machines in San Diego at FReepers regular news, then weep, we knew it would happen, but did it have to be so soon?

Yes, the commies said they would have a bloodless revolution in America, and they have just about succeeded.

I work with technology, and anyone that knows me could tell you that I love new stuff and new gadgets. But these voting machines make me ill. There is no audit trail, no paper record of your vote, and no visibility to the data or the source code of the voting machines. The machines are also notoriously unsecure. Basically all you do is push a button and hope for the best. Even the elections departments have no way to recount or validate the election. All of the power of the election is in the hands of a private company that is accountable to no one. It doesn't take a genius to realize how screwed up that is. I agree with you Ruth, these machines are the end of any semblance of a representative republic that we might have had left.

And yes, if Kerry wins, get ready to get on your knees and lick the jackboots of the UN.

It just seemed to me more than coincidental that AQ was threatening to rescue their "brothers" at Gitmo, then we arrive very shortly thereafter in Haiti- directly across from Gitmo. No doubt we have legitimate concerns regarding Haiti, too, but the sudden deployment of troops there coupled with the EO about Cuba gave me reason to pause...

Re- the Frederick woman exposed to Ebola at Ft. Detrick. One part of this not often mentioned is that the day this occurred, she went home.

Only the next day did she report the exposure. The officials are saying that there is no risk of exposure due to the length of time it would have taken for her to become contagious, plus apparently she didn't go anywhere but home.

Re- suitcase nukes. Remember the posts about coming into the US from Mexico, and having the "batteries" ready? Feeling a bit chilly at the moment.

Your mention of the bribery reminded me of those Ukrainian pilots who died mysteriously. That article said that the workers who were supposed to check the cargo were pressured into not doing so, by someone "high up". Still wondering what the cargo was and who was influencing the workers...

Al Qaeda's Neo-Nazi Connections
Jewish Press 2/25/2004 | William Grim

Posted on 03/02/2004 8:42:05 AM EST by SJackson

On the surface there would seem to be little to unite the Aryan racialists of the neo-Nazi movement with the terrorists of radical Islam. To the neo-Nazis, Muslims are almost all members of ``inferior`` races; and to the Islamic terrorists, the neo-Nazis are almost without exception either atheists or members of fringe quasi-Christian sects.

But the reality is that there has been close cooperation between Muslim extremists and Fascists ever since the founding of the Nazi movement in the 1920`s. For all of their differences, Muslim extremists and Nazis have always been united by a common group of beliefs and goals: hatred of Judaism (and conventional Christianity), hatred of democracy, and a desire for the destruction of Israel and the United States.

Largest Supplier of Private Guards at U.S. Nuclear Facilities Putting Homeland Security at Risk, Says SEIU

2 March 2004, 3:25pm ET

Mounting Evidence of Lax Security, Ignored Safety Concerns, and Other Problems Throughout Nuclear Power and Weapons Facilities Guarded by Wackenhut

WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- There is mounting evidence of widespread security problems at sensitive U.S. nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons facilities guarded by Denmark-based security firm Group 4 Falck/Wackenhut, the largest supplier of private security officers to those sites. A comprehensive study of public documents, reports, news clippings, and court filings reveals security problems at multiple nuclear sites throughout the U.S. over the last several years. The most recent revelations, concerning the Oak Ridge Nuclear Weapons Plant in Tennessee were made public at the end of January.

"It is deeply disturbing that these kinds of problems continue to exist in this day and age," said Anna Burger, International Secretary-Treasurer of the Service Employees International Union. "As the largest union of security officers, we are committed to improving security practices and raising industry standards for safety and training. The fact is, Wackenhut is undercutting efforts around the country to improve security standards, and the public deserves to know that. Especially when it comes to nuclear security, there is no margin for error."

Wackenhut has been caught:

Cheating on security drills at the Oak Ridge nuclear weapons plant in Tennessee. U.S. Department of Energy investigators heard testimony of a pattern of cheating during security drills at Oak Ridge.

Cutting corners on security at Indian Point nuclear plant near New York City. Wackenhut also provided false information to plant management who was conducting a government-ordered investigation into whether employees could freely report safety concerns.

Ignoring security concerns raised by guards at nuclear facilities and illegally punishing the guards who raised them. The concerns raised by guards that went unheeded included lax perimeter security at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant in New Jersey, negligence in taking inventory of plutonium stores, sloppy emergency drills, and elimination of a bomb-detection unit at the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site in Colorado, and shoddy employee screening at the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant in Missouri.

More details about these cases and Wackenhut's security record at U.S. nuclear facilities, are available online at www.EyeonWackenhut.com .

SEIU, America's largest private security officers' union, launched www.EyeOnWackenhut.com to educate security consumers about Wackenhut's business and employment practices. The site includes information based on a systematic analysis of public documents, press reports, and surveys of employees that reveal a Wackenhut track record of security problems at sensitive nuclear facilties, questionable hiring practices, poor officer training, and illegal retaliation against employees who raise security concerns.

I was reading it earlier and it is interesting. Particulary since it's surfacing at the same time the Oklahoma City investigation is being reopened.
