N.Y. Times and Andy Rooney Attack 'Crazy' Gibson
Newsmax ^ | 2-23-04 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 02/23/2004 1:42:01 PM PST by truthandlife

Admirers of Mel Gibson will be happy to know that the New York Times has sunk to snotty new lows in its attacks on him. And Andy Rooney has one-upped it.

The Old Gray Lady whines that "Gibson is viewed not as an artist flouting convention and mainstream Hollywood orthodoxies, but as a lobbyist for the fundamentalist religious movement in the United States at a time when its clout is unmistakably on the rise."

Viewed so by whom? The Times fails to say. The answer: viewed so by the Times and its ilk.

The Times frets: "Critics worry that Mr. Gibson's film, which has already been embraced by Christian preachers as a tool of evangelization [horrors!], will reawaken old prejudices — not that Jews are guilty of killing Christ, but that Jewish liberals control the entertainment and media industries and have imposed a secular, left-leaning bias on movies and television."

Which critics? The Times fails to say. The answer: critics at the Times and its ilk.

'Mel Is a Real Nut Case'

"60 Minutes" curmudgeon Rooney claims that God told him that Pat Robertson and Gibson are "wackos. ... They're crazy as bedbugs .... Mel is a real nut case. What in the world was I thinking when I created him? Listen, we all make mistakes."

The conclusion of Rooney's transcript Sunday: "My question to Mel Gibson is: 'How many million dollars does it look as if you're going to make off the crucifixion of Christ?'"

Rooney fails to say how much he and CBS and Viacom have made off Saddam Hussein, 9/11, the war on terrorism, the war in Iraq, the Vietnam War, the death penalty, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan ...

Please let the media elite continue to atrtack Mel and all christians. As they do so they will no doubt stir their passions and remind them why the demo/socialists should not be allowed back in proximity to the levers of power in this nation.

Rooney has been waving his anti-Christian bigotry around for all to see for years now.

Did ya ever notice how some no-talent losers always have a gimmick for drawing attention to themselves?

Did ya ever notice how angry you get at yourself when you realized that you've foolishly paid any attention at all to them?

Rooney should really stick to his tired old crotchety routines about the amount of coffee in a can and such stuff.

I remember Rooney ridiculing the Promise Keeper's prayer meeting on the Mall in Washington, DC. One comment he made about why praying for things was a waste of time: "If God wanted us to have something, He'd just give it to us."

Rooney even did a hit piece on George Patton.

In the Left Behind Books I picture the False Prophet, Leon Fortunato as Andy Rooney. He has more excuses than a kindergarten class with diarrhea.

The American left is as afraid of Christianity as were the ancient Romans, and they should be. If this Christianity thing takes hold, THEY'RE ancient history.

Mel Gibson is a REAL man, who stands on his principles...not an overpaid, over-hyped Hollywierd pussy. Loved a bumper sticker I saw recently on a truck that said "Real Men Love Jesus".

(What--Andy Rooney insists you can't make a movie about Jesus Christ?)

I caught Rooney last night....don't generally watch the scumbag....I was surprised the lengths to which Rooney went in representing what God would say to him about Mel Gibson....it was really over the top, IMHO. But, then, I hope he keeps talking....I bet he lost a lot of "followers" last night.

Andy Rooney is senile - I have complained to CBS about this.

I'm afraid oh Andy sees no need for salvation and wants to encourage others in that direction.

I wonder if Mel had created a porn movie, if Andy would also smear him over that? Somehow - I think not.

The conclusion of Rooney's transcript Sunday: "My question to Mel Gibson is: 'How many million dollars does it look as if you're going to make off the crucifixion of Christ?'"

That's funny: last summer, people like Frank Rich were confidently asserting "The Passion" wouldn't make any money.

So now they're resentful that it will make money? TSK! TSK!
