Redrock, your story was so much more personal and genuine than anything I have heard Kerry say.
As a female never in the military, I always thought a Purple Heart was for extreme bravery or serious injury in battle. Can other vets explain to me how he received 3 Purple Hearts with a grand total of 2 days in the hospital? Did everyone with similar wounds get a Purple Heart during that time because of the politics of the war? Does anyone doubt if Kerry had any wounds he could show that he would wear clothing to showcase those wounds and Max Cleland could stay home some days?
I do have a personal question for you and I understand if you aren't comfortable answering on a public forum.
Plain or sweet? I'm a sweet, hubby's a plain. I make a mean batch of mini sweet corn muffins and would send you my super secret receipe if you like that kind. It does make a mess using several bowls, but they melt in your mouth. :)

Thank you for sharing your story.
I never saw combat myself, but during the years that I was away from home in the military, my favorite people were the ones who were there every day to put the mail into my mail box.
No day ever went by when I was not appreciative of what they provided for me. I suppose that I could mention a lot of people who performed important jobs now that you have me thinking about it.
Thank you for your service!

Thanks for the ping Linda- This is a great read redrock. Thank you for sharing it.
Upon reading it, it brings a thought to mind. IF the Democrats are now the party of patriots, how do they explain their lust for Bill Clinton, the flag burning , draft dodging President?
Not that it matters now, but I wish the Democrats would make up their minds:
Isn't this their great Leader?
Bill Clinton registers for the draft on September 8, 1964, accepting all contractual conditions of registering for the draft. Given Selective Service Number 3 26 46 228.
Bill Clinton classified 2-S on November 17, 1964
Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on March 20, 1968
Bill Clinton ordered to report for induction on July 28, 1969
Bill Clinton dishonors order to report and is not inducted into the military Bill Clinton reclassified 1-D after enlisting in the United States Army Reserves on August 07,1969 under authority of Colonel E. Holmes.
Clinton signs enlistment papers and takes oath of enlistment
Bill Clinton fails to report to his duty station at the University of Arkansas ROTC, September 1969 Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on October 30, 1969, as enlistment with Army Reserves is revoked by Colonel E. Holmes and Clinton now AWOL and subject to arrest under Public Law 90-40 (2)(a) "registrant who has failed to report...remain liable for induction"
Bill Clinton's birth date lottery number is 311, drawn December 1, 1969, but anyone who has already been ordered to report for induction, is INELIGIBLE!
Bill Clinton runs for Congress (1974), while a fugitive from justice under Public Law 90-40 Bill Clinton runs for Arkansas Attorney General (1976), while a fugitive from justice

Very well put!
And as for the junior senator from Massachusetts...well I have two (that's 1..2)words for him.
He now makes much of his decorations from the war in Vietnam, to appeal to centrists and conservatives, without reminding those audiences that he for long was a leader of Vietnam veterans against the war. Indeed, assiduous searchers, looking for his vulnerabilities, will find much of interest in that period of his life. For example, the fabled and distinguished chief of naval operations (CNO), Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, told me -- 30 years ago when he was still CNO -- that during his own command of US naval forces in Vietnam, just prior to his anointment as CNO, young Kerry had created great problems for him and the other top brass, by killing so many non-combatant civilians and going after other non-military targets.
"We had virtually to straight-jacket him to keep him under control," the admiral said. "Bud" Zumwalt got it right when he assessed Kerry as having large ambitions -- but promised that his career in Vietnam would haunt him if he were ever on the national stage.

Thank you. I always apologize when I say that I never went into battle. When the kids at school find out I was in the Army--and DURING the end of the Viet Nam War--they always ask about "what I did." I'm always embarrassed that I was an avionics mechanic and didn't do anything even CLOSE to danger.
It's very gracious of you to extend that which you have "HARD-won" to those of us who "only [stood] and wait[ed}."
Thank you, again.
