Several times a week it seems, Lucianne had pictures of the president getting off a plane and playing with Spot.
I know he'll miss that dog terribly. Just added stress the president does not need.

Have sympathy on Revolting Cat - apparently he has never enjoyed the love of a dog so he has no idea of what we are talking about. A truer friend cannot be found that that of your dog.

Well - if wrong - then you enjoy mocking others or have no empathy. Very unimpressive.

Yep that's the one! Thanks that photo brought back memories. I LOVED that dog for some reason. I remember asking "wheres spot" on FR when i was looking at the tapes of Barney on his christmas trip around the white house. I guess he was gettin' ready for doggie heaven. Never felt so unhappy about a dog dying that i never even met.

I'll wear black for a week, of course. I'm sure that's a good color....for you.

I have no idea of the author but someone wrote "pets are the soul of a home".
I believe that's true.
Whenever I go into a home with no pets, it just feels "empty" to me, no matter how many people are there.
( but then again, people call me "Ellie Mae Clampett" so I may be a *bit* prejudiced ).....;)

We have had several springer spaniels & currently have a 4 year old one. They will just have to replace her, nothing like a loving springer in the house!! I remember Millie, didn't realize that Spot was one of her pups. How sad.

Empty and kind of cold too. I can't help it, but, if someone tells me they don't like animals, I automatically don't trust them, or I just think they are uptight, not really someone I'd want to know. I'm kind of an "Ellie Mae Clampett" too though LOL.

Beautiful picture...a noble Marine and a very loved Spot. It hurts every time a dog passes on and I feel so sorry for President Bush and Mrs. Bush. I hope they find a new pup to fill their broken hearts...or that a new pup finds his way to them.

Thanks for the pictures you posted. I'd never seen that one of Bar and the puppies.

I've heard the President say something about Barney not being trusted in the Oval Office, what with the new rug and all........
Sad day for the family.

Man, I hate it when dogs die, period. I had to go with my mother to put down our dog, Mitzi, when I was a kid. It would be just as hard to do it now. I don't know about you, but I fully expect that when we reach the Pearly Gates, our long-lost, four-legged friends will be there to greet us. Otherwise, I don't wanna go. I'll just stick around here for a few millenia and haunt the hell out of liberals. LOL

I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your great friend :-(
He sounds like he was quite possibly one of the luckiest dogs in the world to have you love and take care of him with your whole heart... and I bet he loved you right back with everything in his heart. The only kind of heaven that makes sense to me is one that would include him and that kind of love in it... I'm sure you'll see him again someday. Until then my condolences on having to miss him so dreadfully...

A Dogs Plea
Treat me kindly my beloved friend, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for thought I might lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the worlds sweetest music, ans you must know by the wagging of my tail when the sound of your call falls upon my waiting ears.
Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to the bitter elements.
I ask for no greater pleasure than the privilage of sitting at your feet.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannt tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me wholesome food that I may stay well to romp and play and walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in any danger.
And my friend when I am old and no longer enjoy good health, hearing and eyesite, do not take any heroic efforts to keep my life going.
Please see to it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Sometimes, when I think about heaven I find myself thinking that I may be a bit disappointed if it doesn't have cats, dogs and horses.

That's a great one, but I thought there was one where Spot was lying down next to the President's desk, just waiting for him to finish working. Maybe it was taken at the same time as the picture in post 132.
