CA: The Chronicle Recommends Boxer challenger (Bill Jones)

AMONG THE Republican March 2 primary hopefuls vying for the seat occupied by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., one candidate has a clear edge in experience and command of the issues -- former Secretary of State Bill Jones.

Jones proved to be a coolly professional state officer during his two terms as California's elections chief. He revamped the office and brought modern technology to bear on many lingering elections problems in the state. He made voting issues accessible through the Internet and most important, showed a quick willingness to investigate accusations of election fraud independent of partisan politics.

I think this endorsement means that Boxer is toast because of her ties to Indian casinos and there must be internal polling to show her numbers falling.

Bill Jones is the type of RINO the Chron believes they can pressure with editorials.

Consider that California had loosened its abortion laws in 1967, what they really want is to impose abortion on demand on the rest of the country. Even if a future SCOTUS reversed Roe v Wade, it would only return the issue back to the states. I'm quite sure the California Assembly would write abortion language into new law that would keep abortion in California just as easily available as it is now under Roe. A US Senator would have very little to say about the abortion laws even within his or her home state.

Kaloogian is not a country club Repbulican or RINO and therefore will never be endorsed by a rag like the Chronicle.

I suppose the elitist/Country Club Repbulicans, Schwarznegger, Hugh Hewitt, John Campbell, Pete Wilson, David Dreier, et. al. will never endorse or support Kaloogian.

That was my thought exactly. I haven't seen any other article that mentions Casey and Marin, let alone quote them, without also including at least a mention of Kaloogian. Seems like the Jones campaign must have gotten cozy with the Chron, imo.

I preferred Howard, but wanted to watch Jones for a while. This endorsement now makes me highly skeptical of Jones.

Whatever else Bill Jones may be, he's the dullest man in politics. Listening to him speak, even on a topic I care about, is enough to make my eyes roll up in the back of my head. My take is that the Chronically Wrongical would love for a snoozer to go against Boxer.

After the endless barrage of "news" stories on both radio and TV about the MOCKERY OF MARRIAGE, I can't believe they didn't have something to say about Jones' stand on SAME SEX MARRIAGE, or MARRIAGE TO ANIMALS, or worse still... MARRIAGE TO BARBARA BOXER!!!

I'm so sick of the media's heavy breathing over the San Fransicko scoff-laws and their QUEER NATION MARRIAGES, that I've advanced to the dry heaves!!!

Yes, Davis signed the "Reproductive Privacy Act" in 2002. (SB 1301, Kuehl; Assembly votes, Senate votes)

If Roe vs. Wade were ever overturned, allowing states to determine their own abortion policies, abortion would have become prohibited in CA due to preexisting laws. So, the Democrats authored the new law to guarantee the "right" to have an abortion in CA even if anything changed on the federal level.

Not true. In 1967 Governor Ronald Reagan as one of his first acts as governor signed a bill "liberalizing" abortion laws in California. That law however was nowhere nearly as permissive as Roe v Wade.

The fact that the California Assembly and Senate passed a law signed by Governor Gray Davis codifying the level of permissiveness in California that existed under Roe v Wade demonstrates that the real goal of polititicians like Barbara Boxer is not to defend the right of California to decide its own abortion laws but to force that level of permissivness of abortion on all the states. I might add that if it were up to politicans like Barbara Boxer, the state governments would effectively be abolished and leftist policies they espouse would also be forced on the whole country.
