Kerry intern's parents respond to allegations

FACING the first crisis of his campaign, Democratic presidential nomination front-runner John Kerry will today respond to allegations he had a two-year affair with a young woman who has since fled the country.

Branded a political dirty trick by the Democrats, the pro-Republican Drudge Report website yesterday accused Senator Kerry, 60, of having an affair that threatened "to turn the race for the presidency on its head".

At the centre of the allegations is Alex Polier, 24, who had worked as a New York-based reporter for Associated Press. She now is now in Kenya.

Her parents, Donna and Terry, speaking from Malvern, Pennsylvania yesterday, said there was no evidence of an affair, only that Senator Kerry may have been attracted to their daughter.

Mr Polier said Senator Kerry had called his daughter "two or three years ago" to ask her to work on his re-election team. She declined.

"I think he's a sleaze-ball," Mr Polier told London's Sun newspaper.

Mrs Polier claimed Senator Kerry was "after" her daughter.

Drudge, which broke the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal, alleged yesterday that a young woman, "recently fled the country, reportedly at the prodding of Kerry" after a two-year affair beginning in early 2001.

Drudge further claimed General Wesley Clark, in an off-the-record conversation this week with reporters just before he dropped out of the race for the White House, said that "Kerry will implode over an intern issue".

General Clark made no mention of this during an interview with CNN yesterday. Today, he will throw his support behind Senator Kerry as the Democrat candidate to challenge George W. Bush at the November 2 federal election.

Senator Kerry is married to Teresa Heinz, heiress of the food empire.

He has two daughters from his first marriage, which ended in 1990.

For instance, Kerry was only able to raise the $6 million loan (or whatever it was) based on his "share" of their house on Beacon Hill.

He is prohibited from using her money directly for his campaign, though she could contribute the maximum $2,000 like any other donor. Ms. Kerry has also maintained that she can make so-called independent expenditures for such things as advertising supporting his candidacy, though she would be prevented from coordinating with Mr. Kerry or his campaign. Some campaign finance experts have said such an arrangement would present thorny legal problems, to say nothing of public perception."

And she is wrong about that. Anyone with inside knowledge of the campaign cannot give (or probably even lend) it money.

Yes, agreed. I went to the FEC website and re-read the actual regs (it's been a while since I had done that). A loan is considered the same as a contribution and the $2000 limit per person applies.

BTW, I'm not saying that they won't try to break the law. In fact, they probably already are--since there is no way in hell Kerry is paying back that $6 million load he took out on his Senate salary.

Hopefully it will all be investigated after he loses the election, and they will be heavily fined. But it probably won't be.

Yeah. It seems to be relatively uncommon. As you can see from Google there was a famous New York Judge Justine Wise Polier, who championed interracial adoption and other causes. She was Jewish--for what it's worth.

EVERYBODY denies extramarital affairs if they've had them. Men, women, Democrats, Republicans, ministers, atheists, politicians, non-politicians. You don't usually hear, "OK you caught me. I was fooling around with that young thing and boy was she hot."

You deny them because someone accused you in the first place. That's what struck me. Here again is another prominent Rat politician being forced into the denial-damage control mode because of yet another (apparently credible) accusation of sexual impropriety. I mean, "he said she said" is one thing, but "he said and she said and she said and she said and..." is getting a little ridiculous.

But I have a feeling, in the end, that, like with Clinton, it won't matter. The Rat leadership certainly won't care. They defended Scumbag against this stuff for over eight years, so they are old hands at it. And it won't make any difference to the sheeple, either, as long as Kerry promises sufficient amounts of free money.

Thanks! I think Kerry is an "obsessed stalker who didn't like getting "no" for an answer" MORE THAN ONCE. He reminds me of a sleaze who talks about women like they are made only for him. He gives me the creeps. Posing for pictures playing hockey, windsurfing, etc. Oh, what a guy. /sarcasm
