I would assume any life-form capable of making the trip to Earth would be a rational being, and as such should understand our response to its arrival. We take no chances with unregulated food imports, it would be unthinkable to let a creature from another planet, a product of a completely different evolutionary path and with potentially billions of stow-away viruses just do as it pleases. ET will just have to understand.

Which leads me to a thought.
Why do we assume these things will be the same size as us and not 20 ft. tall?

It all starts with a seemingly innocent meteor:
They try to be nice, but are treated poorly by "the experts"
Then all hell breaks loose:

...Hal Puthoff, Powerplant Engineering. An expert on zero-point energy, a means of extracting limitless power from the quantum vacuum without violating the known laws of physics, Puthoff would understand how ET powers its craft. I quit right here. Excuse me, UFO community? Shouldn't this man be dead or richer than Bill Gates? Why should I take any of this nonsense seriously beyond this point? And what kind of human arrogance makes you think that we could even begin to grasp a FTL technology if it did exist?
Someone said it: "Gort! Klattu Barrada Nicto!"

I'm glad you posted this. I read the story in a print copy of PM last week but the website did not have the story at that time.
Thanks.

I agree, we can even train our own not to go on the carpets.

You know, it is clear that the aliens in that movie were Commies. Every free nation is shown being attacked. They slag a sypathetic priest. They can't be trusted to hold their fire when an obvious white flag of surrender is shown. Godless Commies. Think about it...

This plan would work if they come in small ships, however, if they come in huge motherships floating over a city, chances that this plan would go into effect would be nill.Do you think martial law would be declared?
