[history]
A photograph of Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts together with Jane Fonda at an anti-Vietnam war rally in 1970 in Pennsylvania has surfaced on the Internet, angering veterans who say his association with her 34 years ago is a slap in the faces of Vietnam War veterans.

Please send to your mailing list a link to "John (Benedict?) Kerry" that I wrote for the Internet and posted on FreeRepublic. I've known Kerry since he gave his first speech at Yale in 1963, so I offer a slightly different perspective on the "gentleman."

"I know something about aircraft carriers for real," he says.. What, did he pilot his little patrol boat around one?
So what does Hanoi John know about carriers - for real?
- They're large
- They're haze grey
- They have aircraft on them
- My patrol boat was probably as large as the skipper's launch
- They're built for, and operated by, the US Navy. I was a Naval Lt., so I know about them - for real.

To Freepers from Carl/NewsMax
Some here are disappointed that NewsMax didn't credit FR for the Fonda-Kerry photograph, even claiming that we "got it" from FR.
In truth, the copies that appeared on FR were "borrowed" from Corbis, featuring the CORBIS stamp across its image. Had NewsMax simply used that image, Corbis woud have sued the daylights out of us.
To use that photo legally, NewsMax had to pay Corbis quite a tidy sum.
As many here already know, NewsMax credits FR far more frequently than any other commercial news site on the Web.
And, without naming names, other prominent commercial conservative web sites have decided to ignore the Fonda-Kerry photo story altogether. Had NewsMax not raised the issue of this photo in the first place (See: "The Photo Dems Fear Most"), it would have likely never been uncovered on FR or anywhere else.
Since getting this photo into wider circulation involved a significant financial committment that others chose not to make, I did not feel it was appropriate to credit beyond Corbis.

Carl, It was found by a FReeper who did the work and searched through some photo archives. I suspect that Corbis isn't the only place that FReeper searched. I suspect that FReeper had to go through many photos looking for John Kerry in them. There is no question that NewsMax deserves some credit for getting the news out that the photo exists. However, give credit where credit is due. The bottom line is that if that FReeper had not taken the time and effort to find the photo there would still be no photo of Fonda and Kerry together for NewsMax to post. It would still be waiting in the Corbis archive, unfound and unpublished.

I am spooked, not only is John Kerry in this photo but more weird is that John Lynd, aka TALIBAN JOHNNY is sitting right behind Hanoi Jane.

"'I know something about aircraft carriers for real,' he says."
Big deal! Did he ever land on one? Did he ever serve on one? Did he look at pictures of one and dream about it? Or, what???
No follow up?

Is this photo for real? It needs to be positively
verified before it's passed around. We know from what we
have been told that he was there, but we sure don't want
to see anything doctored that makes US look bad. Oh well,

Gen. Giap: Kerry's Group Helped Hanoi Defeat U.S.From Newsmax Article:
The North Vietnamese general in charge of the military campaign that finally drove the U.S. out of South Vietnam in 1975 credited a group led by Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry with helping him achieve victory.
In his 1985 memoir about the war, Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap wrote that if it weren't for organizations like Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Hanoi would have surrendered to the U.S. - according to Fox News Channel war historian Oliver North.
That's why, he predicted on Tuesday, the Vietnam War issue "is going to blow up in Kerry's face."
"People are going to remember Gen. Giap saying if it weren't for these guys [Kerry's group], we would have lost," North told radio host Sean Hannity.
"The Vietnam Veterans Against the War encouraged people to desert, encouraged people to mutiny - some used what they wrote to justify fragging officers," noted the former Marine lieutenant colonel, who earned two purple hearts in Vietnam.
"John Kerry has blood of American soldiers on his hands," North said.
John Kerry could Stand on the Tallest Mountain but no Matter how high up he is he could never be Tall enough to Stand in Ollie Norths Shoes. The difference between Ollie and Kerry is Classic Difference of a Punk and a Mans Man. Kerry ran home and left his crew on the 3 wound Deal, While Ollie Seriously Wounded 3 times elected on his own to Stay in Nam and be there for his Men under his Leadership. John Kerry may be Taller then Ollie but he is a miniature man in comparison to Ollie North. I would pay 500 US Dollars to see Kerry in the ring with Ollie. Only thing is Paying 500 for 60 seconds and then have to watch the replay to see Kerry running out of the ring may not be worth it. Wait, It is worth it. Lol
To: Twinkie
You ask if the photo is real. This is from the article above with Kerry's campaign spokeswoman addressing this issue of photos. They didn't deny the accuracy of the photo and seem to confirm it.
Campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said yesterday Mr. Kerry should not be associated in the public mind with Miss Fonda and her later trip to Hanoi, where she was photographed sitting astride a North Vietnamese antiaircraft gun. "John Kerry and Jane Fonda were just acquaintances," Ms. Cutter said. "What's important to understand here is two things: He met her before she went to Vietnam, and he did not approve of her very controversial trip." She said Mr. Kerry took part in the antiwar movement in order to bring U.S. troops home quickly.

"If you understood what Communism was, you would hope and pray on your knees that we would someday become Communist." You first, Jane.
Once you give all of your wealth away to the poor, stop flying on private jets, quit wearing expensive designer clothes, eating expensive catered food and sailing on luxurious yachts, then I will believe you want to be a communist.
Until then, you are a hypocrite.

Harold Ford was on Fos & Friends just now. He wants to drop "the issues of the past -Kerry's votes, etc" and talk about the future. He did seem to threaten the President - if you bring it up, so will we.
