[history]
A photograph of Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts together with Jane Fonda at an anti-Vietnam war rally in 1970 in Pennsylvania has surfaced on the Internet, angering veterans who say his association with her 34 years ago is a slap in the faces of Vietnam War veterans.

Thanks, I agree, you all did a lot of research and at a minumim, FR should be mentioned. Kudos to you and the team for your excellent research. Could we start a thread and ask Newsmax to give credit where credit is due?

Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, California Republican, said yesterday, "it diminishes the service some of us almost gave our lives for, and the over 56,000 people that lost their lives it slaps their families in the face."
About 6,000 of those were National Guard and reserves.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1075731/posts John Kerry: Shredding documents and abandoning veterans
"Kerry's actions in Vietnam were heroic, but his actions upon his return were inexcusable. Kerry associated with the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, a rabid anti-war group that defamed United States soldiers and often protested under the banner of the Viet Cong.
Normalization for Vietnam passed overwhelmingly in the Senate, largely due to Kerry's persistence. Kerry's pro-normalization views seem particularly strong when viewed in comparison with Kerry's other foreign-policy positions. Kerry has flip-flopped repeatedly on the war in Iraq, but his support for the Vietnamese government has been unwavering. According to Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby, in 2002 Kerry blocked the Vietnam Human Rights Act from coming to a vote.
Is John Kerry committed to Vietnam veterans? Perhaps the ones back in the United States. But for the Vietnam soldiers who died because Kerry provided aid and comfort to the Viet Cong, or the POWs who may have lived out their lives in cages, Kerry's lack of commitment had tragic consequences.

Rep. Sam Johnson, Texas Republican, who spent nearly seven years in a prisoner-of-war camp in VietnamYou will notice that Sam Johnson, unlike McCain, has not made that into a career.

Newsmax doesn't care. They aren't real news. It's just a bunch of guys who watch TV and listen to the radio.
It's too late, the photo is out there and FR didn't get any credit. It's a shame. Corbis has the rights and could have relabled it by now, but on Saturday Corbis did not know that Kerry was in the photo.
Now I was going to go down to the Detroit News and Library archives and find a photo of Kerry and Fonda at a Detroit rally, but it's going to take me at last a day if not a week, and honestly, why should I do all that work if we aren't going to get any credit. I don't want credit for me, but attribution to the site would be ethical.

"...yet I keep hearing nobody should care about GWB's cause it was so long ago." The fact that it was thirty years ago is irrelevant.
What is relevant is that GWB received an Honorable Discharge -- ipso facto proof that he properly completed all his duties. Period. End of story.
In other words, his ANG service is Alabama is not an issue because it's not an issue!
That the media are trying to make an issue of it is despicable. It's a "Have you stopped beating your wife?" story.

Campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said yesterday Mr. Kerry should not be associated in the public mind with Miss FondaIt will be. We'll make sure everyone knows. (I hope they don't mind if we spread the truth. It's for all the Vietnam vets out there. They should know.)

hmmmm, I wonder if the photo can somehow be linked to Free Republic, and if they want to copy it, they have to get permission from FR, or Jim. I hope you don't stop your research, you do good work.

It is becoming increasingly irksome that FreeRepublic is not credited for unearthing this photograph. There is no limit to what you can accomplish if you dont care who gets the credit ~ Ronald Wilson Reagan

Looks like lake 5732 found it.
To: kennedy I found a pic on
http://pro.corbis.com/ using a search on Fonda and Vietnam. The picture has Fonda attending an anti war rally with Kerry in the background. To go directly to the photo do a search on the photos inventory #: EF001345. Corbis is a free-to-search site and pay-to-download.

(IF JOHN KERRY IS THE ANSWER, IT MUST BE A STUPID QUESTION)
To: kattracks
Mr. Kerry testified in 1971 before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, however, citing accusations that American soldiers in Vietnam routinely committed atrocities such as beheadings, killing children and razing villages. He did not present evidence of these claims. He crucified his comrades for political gain.

Mr. Kerry's protesting "saved more lives than not," he added. No, it demoralized the fine soldiers still fighting the war, and caused people to spit on them when they returned. Nice going, Kerry - NOT!!!!
