MSNBC "Hardball" host and longtime Democrat Chris Matthews said Tuesday that a photo showing Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry protesting the Vietnam war with "Hanoi" Jane Fonda is a real problem for his party's top candidate.
While offering sharp criticism of President Bush for not serving in Vietnam, Matthews told radio host Don Imus Tuesday morning, "You've got the Jane Fonda problem on the other side. The thing with her is, she was on the other side - she was on Hanoi's side during that war.
"And I'll tell you," Matthews continued, "everybody I knew, including me, who was against the war - I wouldn't have anything to do with a person who supported Hanoi."
Kerry, then head of the radical anti-war group Vietnam Veterans Against the War, worked closely with Fonda on two war protests; a Sept. 1970 rally in Valley Forge, Penn., where Fonda and Kerry spoke from the back of the same pick-up truck. And a Jan. 1971 protest they called "The Winter Solider Investigation," where fabricated testimony of U.S. war atrocities was presented.
Asked about the NewsMax.com photo showing Sen. Kerry protesting the war with "Hanoi" Jane at Valley Forge, Matthews observed, "That will be in the Republican [campaign] ads."

Well...does this, then, authenticate Kerry actually being in the crowd ?
Corbis would have to validate that, since they own it. But, since it is taken from their 'catalog', it does appear to be legit. If it were altered, Corbis could be liable, so alterations seem highly unlikely.

It'd be hard for Kerry to deny that that's an authentic picture. Not only was Kerry present at the rally, but he (and Fonda, both) gave rabble-rousing speeches to the mob at Valley Forge in 1970, according to the book recently published by Douglas Brinkley.
IIRC, Kerry's speech to this very crowd is what catapulted him to the top leadership spot of VVAW. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Matthews is just plain "hanoing"

I'm not clairvoyant, but I'll say the same thing. Republicans would be stupid to not use those images in campaign ads. Of course they will.

I wonder if Matthews ever criticized Clinton for not serving at all.I don't know about Matthews, but according to FNC this morning, Kerry defended Toon's draft-dodging repeatedly.

This is going to turn out a whole lot of nothing. It's like the photo of Mrs. Carter and John Wayne Gacy; just because you're in a photo together doesn't mean you agree 100% on any issue Hard to argue with that kind of reasoning. Kerry and Fonda appeared together as speakers at Valley Forge "Operation RAW" (Rapid American Withdrawal), the September 1970 march featured Fonda, Kerry and a motley band of anti-war vets in an 86-mile trek from Morristown, N.J., and Valley Forge, Pa. two Revolutionary War sites. They also were in Detroit together at the Winter Soldier Investigation. Whether they agreed 100% on the Vietnam War is irrelevant. Their active association is important and indisputable.
Frankly, I don't care if the photo is doctored. We know that both of them were principal participants in the events mentioned previously. Kerry was a co-founder of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I suggest you read the Holzers' book, "Aid and Comfort" to learn about Fonda's connection with and support of Kerry's organization. Fonda raised funds for Kerry. In an interview with Hanoi Radio, George Wald cited the Vietnam Veterans Against the War as a "strong element" in the anti war coallition and noted, that these veterans were now "the most bitter opponents of the war" and "ashamed of their part."
This isn't guilt by association or appearing together coincidentally in the same photo. Fonda and Kerry were allies in spreading anti-American propaganda and giving aid and comfort to the enemy, which was still killing Americans on the ground. The North Vietnamese never won a major battle against us and lost 20 times the number of personnel. They won politically, thanks in part to the efforts of useful idiots like Kerry and Fonda. Some might even call it treason.

I might also add that Kerry has a Ramsey Clark problem. There are similar photos of them together as well.

I think a good ad would be of Kerry saying, as he did a few weeks ago, that the Republicans are exaggerating the war on terror. With the WTC in the background.
It might be a little over the top, now that I think about it.
To: truthandlife
His real problem is that he does not stand for anything longer than the next interview.
That is a problem when you want to please everone. Must have something to do with "Feet Of Clay".

Chrissy will soon discover that this is no real issue after all, whatever the evidence, and that voting Kerry is the only possible choice for decent human beings.
It's so predictable.
