No One Seriously Injured

POSTED: 9:27 AM CST February 6, 2004

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An off-duty police officer in Oklahoma City narrowly escaped injury overnight after his car was hit from behind by a sport utility vehicle.

The SUV hit the officer's car from behind, causing it to flip.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were not seriously injured.

A few questions about this story. Why does it matter that he was an off-duty cop? I see the relevence if he was on duty, but off duty in his personal cadilac? Why not just say a person, or civilian? Why is it mentioned that the other vehicle was an SUV? does it matter? Looks to me like this is no different than dozens of other accidents that happen everyday. Someone with an agenda, saw this and thought that the details of an SUV hitting a cop make its newsworthy.

If you do a quick FR search under "SUV" you'll see some wonderful stories about SUVs...as if they had a mind of their own. Ohh..there'e an agenda, alright.

Consider that the source is a TV station website. Their primary goal is to sensationalize normal, everyday events. Last night's programming on a Los Angeles TV station was interrupted by coverage of a neighborhood search for a car thief.

The station missed the original police chase, (I know how LA stations LOVE those chases) but chose to spend about 20-minutes on aerial coverage of a suburban neighborhood.

There was no one in sight, but the station had two talking heads going on and on about the search for the driver. They finally gave up but not without warning anyone who lived in the neighborhood to not come home for dinner or to stay inside (out of danger) if already home.

I agree, why in the world does it matter he was a cop. To make the SUV sound evil I guess. It would not matter if the guy was a teacher, drug-dealer, truck driver, doctor, telemarketer, cashier, or anything else.

What I want to know is whether a woman was driving the SUV.

SUV's Gone Bad!

I doubt if it was a regular SUV.

My guess is that it was a Pit-SUV that had been trained to do this sort of thing in illegal SUV fights with other equally trained SUV's.

I have heard that there are places in Mexico where people actually bet on the outcome of such fights.

One of my favorite SUV stories was this one:

"A large sports utility vehicle fell from the fifth level of a public library's parking garage Friday, killing the driver, police said. --The 1998 GMC Suburban drove through the concrete barrier wall of the garage at a branch of Broward County's library, plummeting to the pavement and landing on its roof--."

Hmmm, It drove all by itelf? The fact that it was an elderly woman who most likely put it in the wrong gear didn't seem to matter a whole lot. The SUV was guilty.
