SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

This is an interesting post from Daleel. The user at ItsHappening received this as a private message on Saturday and posted it because he was silent yesterday (I always have that shining thought of US agents kicking his door down and dragging him away every time he disappears). Anyway, it sounds like he really doesn't know about the next truth, and that he may only be posting what he "knows" or what he hears, and that they may be waiting for a US attack against them before they initate the large strike they've been dreaming about for months now. but yes we do have sgins of it becoming near but how near we dont know yet, but it will be a huge surprise and an extreamly larg attack and extreamly creative more than the 9-11 attacks.

let me give you a small hint, as long as there is a standing jehad and america didnt lunch any nuclear attack on the mojahideen and things are still moving then its not yet the time for this attack, this attack is a defensive attack and the deaths will be very high and we dont want to kill anyone with out having a really big reason for that its not really an ofensive attack, but we expect alot of smaller attacks with in the US in the coming few months.

U-Turn in Kerry sex row

THE father of the woman said to have had an affair with US Presidential hopeful John Kerry has made a dramatic U-turn.

Terry Polier pledged to vote for the super-rich Democrat after daughter Alex, 27, publicly insisted she had not had a fling with him.

Yet just four days ago, Terry branded Kerry, 60, a “sleazeball” and said he and wife Donna would NEVER support him.

He said: “I know my wife will not be voting for Mr Kerry, let’s put it that way.

“Two years ago he was all for gay marriage, now he’s against it. Not that I care one way or the other, it’s just there have been so many things where I have seen him reverse. Whatever audience he is talking to, he will tell them what they want to hear.”

The Poliers’ about-turn sparked fears that they had been put under pressure by leading Democrats, who have hailed Kerry as the new JFK.

Both Kerry and Alex have denied any affair.

Chemical Leak Causes Evacuations

People who live in the Warren County town of Pleasant Plain are returning to their homes after a being evacuated Wednesday morning because of a chemical leak.

Police said they discovered early Wednesday morning that anhydrous-ammonia was leaking from tank at the Agra-Urban plant on Walnut Street. As of 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, the leak has been stopped but a chemical cloud remained.

Pleasant Plain has a population of 300 to 400 people, and most have been forced from their houses due to the fumes. Although fire crews had hoped to have residents return to their homes quickly, a lack of wind meant that residents weren't able to return until approximately 9:15 a.m.

Traffic in the area had been blocked off Wednesday morning.

Although it is not yet known why the leak happened, tanks just don't open themselves up, said the town's fire chief. There is suspicion that someone broke in to the fertilizer plant to steal the ammonia for a meth lab, but this has not been confirmed by police. (snipped)

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Runaway train wagons laden with a lethal cocktail of fuel and fertilizers blew up in northeast Iran Wednesday, killing scores of villagers and firefighters.

Estimates of the death toll ranged from 60 to more than 200, with hundreds injured. The most recent figure, from state television, put the dead at 182.

The state news agency IRNA said the 51 runaway wagons, filled with petrol, fertilizer and sulphur products had been set rolling by earth tremors in the saffron-growing province of Khorasan bordering Turkmenistan and Afghanistan (news - web sites).

Other officials said the reported tremor could have been the jolt of the blast itself, leaving less clear why the wagons had crashed in a village beside the tracks.

Iranian television showed flames licking from mangled, charred train wagons, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Grinning youths scampered around the wreckage.

"The number of those killed in this disaster is now more than 200," Vahid Barkchi, an emergency official in the northeastern province of Khorasan, told IRNA. "The emergency team is transferring more than 350 injured to hospitals nearby."

The disaster comes amid political uncertainty in Iran, with disputed parliamentary elections to be held Friday.

IRNA said five villages were seriously damaged in the early morning blast which state radio said had killed at least 60 people. Ambulances and rescue helicopters rushed to the scene.

Television showed overturned carriages jumbled beside the tracks, with homes just yards away.

Mangled pickup trucks littered the area and dazed onlookers stood around in one village on a dusty plain with snow-capped mountains in the distance.

EARTH SHUDDERED Fire crews had rushed to the scene to combat a smaller initial blaze when the wagons blew up in a giant explosion 13 miles from the city of Nishapur, hometown of medieval poet Omar Khayyam.

Windows were shattered for more than 10 km around and the earth could be felt shuddering up to 70 km away.

Barkchi said the dead included villagers and some of the more than 200 firefighters who had been battling the blaze.

Iran is prone to tremors and earthquakes. More than 40,000 people died in an earthquake on Dec. 26 in the ancient citadel city of Bam, some 650 km further south.

IRNA said the governor general of Nishapur was killed in the blast along with the head of the city's electricity board and the fire chief.

Interior Ministry officials said they had no immediate figure for fatalities.

In the worst rail crash of the last quarter century, at least 575 people died on June 4, 1989, when two passenger trains in Russia's Ural mountains were engulfed in an explosion from a leaking gas pipeline.

New Book Says Plum Island May Be Responsible For Disease Outbreaks, Terrorist Target

PLUM ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Plum Island Animal Disease Center off eastern Long Island may have been responsible for outbreaks of Lyme disease and West Nile Virus and could be vulnerable to terrorist attacks, a new book claims.

Although attorney and first-time author Michael Carroll concedes he has no direct evidence, he insists he's right, citing seven years researching "Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government's Secret Plum Island Germ Laboratory," published Tuesday by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins.

"Every investigation is about connecting the dots," the author said of his claims. "We know that documents show, that hundreds of hours of interviews show, in this book, Plum Island is run and protects workers ... worse than a junior high school biology laboratory."

Not so, say administrators of the nation's only government laboratory that studies the most dangerous animal diseases. Some medical experts agree.

"I personally just don't think that has any merit," said David Weld, the executive director of the American Lyme Disease Foundation, in Somers, N.Y.

Maureen McCarthy, a top official at the Department of Homeland Security, which recently took over the lab, said: "I guess my first impression is that you can't judge a book by its cover."

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Timothy Bishop, whose district includes Plum Island, did not specifically address the claims in the book, but they said Tuesday that more needs to be done to improve conditions at the lab.

"I'm very pleased that we have new management there, and we're desperately in need of it," Clinton said during an appearance in Yonkers. "Anything that raises questions about safety I'm concerned about."

Carroll, who met with reporters gathering at a ferry dock in Orient Point for a tour of Plum Island on Monday, insisted: "It's too coincidental. I'm not a scientist, but all of these occurrences deserve true scientific investigation."

The author chronicles the history of the lab, which the Department of Agriculture opened in 1954, taking possession from the U.S. Army. The Army operated the island as Fort Terry for decades.

The newly created Department of Homeland Security took control last June, although agriculture department scientists still conduct research.

Carroll claims that while security and safety were top priorities in the early days, eventually there were mishaps that called into question whether the site was a hazard. In particular, he notes a 1978 incident in which animals kept in a holding pen outside Lab 257, one of several Plum Island buildings, were diagnosed with foot-and-mouth disease.

An agriculture department spokeswoman conceded that the cause of the incident, which was reported in the media at the time, was never determined. Lab 257 was closed in 1995, and "right now it poses no health hazard," McCarthy said.

Also, since 1978 no animals have been kept outside the biocontainment laboratories, Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Sandy Miller-Hays said. She also disputed Carroll's claims about Lyme disease, saying it was never studied at the facility, and contended that West Nile Virus was studied only after the outbreak was reported in 1999.

Carroll also cites a power outage during Hurricane Bob in 1991 that left some workers knee-deep in virus-contaminated sewage. He insists that these and other incidents led to a lax atmosphere, which made it possible for the lab to be the source of outbreaks like Lyme disease and West Nile Virus.

But Dr. David Graham, of the Suffolk County health department, countered: "I don't believe the laboratory had anything to do with it."

Carroll also ominously points to a revelation first reported by Newsweek in 2001 that Pakistani nuclear scientist Sultan Bashir Bashir-ud-Din Mahmood had a New York Times article about Plum Island in his possession when he was arrested in December 2001. Mahmood held meetings with Osama bin Laden in 2000 and 2001, according to his son.

"It becomes not what Mike Carroll thinks in his book about Plum Island, it becomes what do the terrorists think," the author said.

McCarthy, the homeland security official, noted that many security changes have taken place since her agency moved in last summer. There are increased security patrols by armed guards, electronic surveillance cameras have been installed, background checks are being done on all employees and escorts accompany all visitors.

"You're talking to somebody who came out of the nuclear weapons business," said McCarthy, the former chief scientist for the National Nuclear Security Administration. "I take this really seriously."

IMPHAL, Feb 11: A huge explosion rocked Manipur’s border town Moreh as a bomb exploded inside the campus of the Moreh telephone Exchange this afternoon around 2.25, according to sources.

However, there were no report of any casualties. Police and paramilitary forces immediately launched a search operation in the area just after the explosion but there were no reports of making any arrest.

According to a police source, explosion of the IED this afternoon by the UGs could be meant for attacking security forces but went off before schedule.

The police also recovered some dry cell batteries and a wire of a few meters length from the spot, the sources added.

All shops and business establishments closed just after the explosion but returned normal later around 3.20 pm.
