SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Thanks for that link. I didn't get a chance to check in with the thread late yesterday but I did see the report on the local news last night. It sort of gave me an uneasy feeling and brought home the realization that NYC is most definitely still number on their target list.

I live in aurora IL and we are still on a boil alert for our water. It has now been 9 days since the order went into place. Are there any other cities that may be experiencing similar water problems. Also last night at 12am my daughter woke me up because there was one of those emergency sirens(the old air raid sirens I don't know what they call them now) going off for at least 3 minutes. This was at 12 midnight. What is going on.
What are we suppose to do if and when this happens again.

It is time to take a serious look at our involvement there. Every day there are news reports about more deaths.  Every night on the TV are photos of death and destruction. Why are we still there?

The land is too large to secure all of it.  The bad people causing this damage can roam anywhere, and we can't possibly police the whole place.  Why are we still there?

We occupied this land, which we had to take by force, but it causes us nothing but trouble.  Why are we still there?

Their government is unstable, and in the process of changing. Why are we still there?

Refugees are fleeing by the thousands, driven from their homes. Why are we still there?

It will cost billions to rebuild, which we can't afford. Why are we still there?

There are more than 1000 religious sects. We can't even secure the borders.  Why are we still there?

And to repeat: Every day we hear of more Americans killed in this dangerous land.





It is clear, we must abandon California now.

'Ten suicide squads after Musharraf'

New Delhi, Feb. 15. (UNI): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's security has been strengthened and his movements kept top secret as the country's premier intelligence agencies have specific information that ten suicide squads are after him.

Pakistan's leading weekly newspaper The Friday Times said in its latest issue that the intelligence teams investigating the possible nexus between the two 'jehadi' groups allegedly responsible for the two attempts on the life of Musharraf also fear there may be more suicide squads out there trying to kill him.

"Our information says there could be eight, possibly ten suicide squads still after the President," a senior intelligence official told The Friday Times on the condition of anonymity.

"Most of these groups comprise local jehadis but some of them might well be taking directives from the foreigners," he said in a clear hint to Al Qaeda.

"They can strike again now that they have been assigned a specific mission, but we will track them down. We are closing in on them," he added.

The weekly said the episode involving nuclear scientists, including Father of Pakistan's Nuclear Bomb Abdul Qadeer Khan, could further endanger Musharraf's life.

"The episode has even put off the common man. Most people think all this is being done at the behest of America and will result in a rollback of the programme. That does not bode well," it said, quoting a political analyst.

Since the Christmas day suicide attack in Rawalpindi, the President's security has been further tightened and standard operating procedures improved in light of that experience.

His movements are now kept secret until the last minute, it said.
