NEW YORK -- Carnival is ending its smoke-free cruises aboard the Paradise.
The 2,052-passenger ship has operated since its introduction in 1998 as a smoke-free vessel, cruising from Miami to the Caribbean with a zero tolerance for cigars and cigarettes among both passengers and crew.

I have sailed on the Paradise twice and loved it. It was great being able to go to a casino or lounge without having smoke blown in my face. You could walk around any deck and not have to inhale that disgusting second-hand smoke. I never had to smell the lingering stale tobacco odor in the cabin. Call me whiney, but I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, and it was wonderful having a smoke free vacation. I will miss the Paradise.
OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE NOT GOING TO MISS....you.

While I don't like jet & car exhaust anymore than the next person, it does not trigger my asthma. I don't think I have ever been troubled with 3rd hand or imaginary smoke. LOL

Actually, I think the non-smoking issue is a moot point now. I have cruised many times and have noticed on the last two cruises that the smoking areas were very much curtailed: no smoking in dining room; bars; theatres; showrooms; casual dining areas. I think the only places smoking is allowed is in designated smoking cabins; out on the deck, but only in specified areas; and in the casino.
On our first cruise, smoking was allowed almost everywhere.
Also have to agree with the anecdotal observation that there are more smokers on Carnival verses the more expensive lines; the demographics are lower income on Carnival.

I was just on the Paradise a couple of months ago and figured that it was going to be a short-term experiment. Carnival is indeed a budget cruise line, but they make their money back on liquor and gambling. Non-smokers don't drink or gamble as much. The bars were all dead and the casino was usually empty.

Personally, I'd love to see them turn much smaller ships that they can fill into 100% smoke-free cruises. That way folks like you can have your fun I think that's a great idea. I do not know a whole lot about seafaring nautical stuff, but one thing I have noticed over the years is that the smaller the ship, the more it goes up-and-down and side-to-side while it's trying to go forward. I used to wonder why the people on those little boats always came back skinnier than when they left. It's because they were afraid to eat after what happened the first time. So not only can we give them a smoke-free environment, we can make them cut down on excess calories, too. Being a Health Nazi could be fun!

You can also smoke in designated areas in the bars on Crystal's ships. But essentially you're right. Carnival's policy is especially lenient compared to Crystal's.

Personally, I like to set my clothes on fire, you know, just smoldering, no flames, and then consuming a four star meal. Oh sure other diners are hacking and coughing, but hey, it's a free world, I can do as I like. For dessert, I usually take off my socks and burn them so I can breath in that good smoke. God I love it so!
At home, I usually invite the neighbors over and then we all sit around breathing in fumes from my smoldering trash. Each neighbor brings a surprise piece of trash and throws into to the mix. Old turpentine cans are really fragrant and get deep into your lungs for that good smoke feeling.
Cigarettes? Their for weenies. When you need real smoke, burn something powerful. Who the hell cares what it is or if it offends someone, I'm a Libertarian and I do what ever I want and the government be damned,...along with my bronchioles!

Doc Don't forget to burn a couple of old tires at your next soiree. Make it a really memoriable event.

If you open a restaurant that allows that and you are sucessful more power to you.
The purpose of this thread and the following gloating is not because we were against Carnival making a non-smoking ship, It's their ship they can do what they want. What we are pointing out is the Hypocracy of the Anti-Smoking Gnatzies who ß©¶ and whine about smoking but whenever a place either by choice or by gunpoint actually goes smokefree then they do not support it and are nowhere to be found.

Just can't stand it can you? You even have to invade a smokers forum to try and control. All you have to do is read the title and you KNOW smokers will be here and bam....here you come. OMG..OMG I have to tell these people what to do with their lives, and just how important I am!!
If you thought what I told you was venom....you really are pretty much a soft sissy wimp aren't you? ROFL anti smokers are just whinny cry babies, most are very preditable... Ditter you are a classic control freak. You need to go back to your little smoke free corner and find something else to do...wheeze maybe. Let me guess verbal conflict makes you have asthma attacks too, so now I have to shut up. Poor Poor Ditter.

You don't have to shut up, your nastiness is quite entertaining. You seem to think I am upset but you are the one who is raging. Keep it up & you will pop an artery. Maybe you should consider getting back on your meds. (Just a friendly suggestion from a fellow freeper)
BTW this is not a smoking forum, its Freerepublic, a political forum. I have been a member here for quite a while I will speak out on any thread I choose.

Stale smoke...stop the presses...life has become intolerable. What do you do run like he** after you fart?Farts dissipate. Sure, they sink to high heavens for a few seconds; but stale cigarette smell reeks for weeks. Farts do not get in your hair, your skin and your clothes. Farts don't get into the carpet and drapes, discolor the paint on the walls, or make the white ceiling turn gray. You don't need to have your clothes laundered, your hair shampooed and your body washed after someone farts. But, you certainly do when you are around a smoker.
Smoker's typically don't notice the reek in their cars, their hair, their clothes or thier body from their smoking. Much like an athelete may not be aware of bad BO. Do you think that non-smokers are gagging, and making comments to smokers because 'they are out to get you'? Typically, not. Most non-smokers couldn't care less if you smoked cigars, rubber tires, or rotten eggs. The fact is that most simply don't care what you do to your lungs; we are talking about "total apathy". Give yourself 'Black Lung' for all we care. What we DO care about is having to smell stale smoke.

So tell me with all that info about the cleanliness of a smoker and the smell.....do you attack people who don't smoke but just don't bathe, don't clean their houses, who have very BAD personal hygiene? Or do you politely walk away and say nothing? And for your info my husband is a non smoker and notices none of what you mentioned on the other hand his farts will peel the paint off the walls. Anti smokers look for petty things to cry about. All we want is to be left alone and not targeted to get every state in the union out of their financial holes with our money. JUST because we do something that has been socially accepted for years and now because of propaganda, the need to tax something and a few cry babies, we are being targeted. You didn't hear all this whinny cry baby stuff in the 50's....60's...70's....80,s. Nothing has changed only the need for the gov. to grab large sums of money from somewhere and for the control freaks who satisfy their addiction of controling people around them (I think they are breeding those people in test tubes somewhere and releasing them on the general public).
