Actually, I think the non-smoking issue is a moot point now. I have cruised many times and have noticed on the last two cruises that the smoking areas were very much curtailed: no smoking in dining room; bars; theatres; showrooms; casual dining areas. I think the only places smoking is allowed is in designated smoking cabins; out on the deck, but only in specified areas; and in the casino.

On our first cruise, smoking was allowed almost everywhere.

Also have to agree with the anecdotal observation that there are more smokers on Carnival verses the more expensive lines; the demographics are lower income on Carnival.

You can also smoke in designated areas in the bars on Crystal's ships. But essentially you're right. Carnival's policy is especially lenient compared to Crystal's.
