The man who is almost single-handedly behind the story that Bush was AWOL is William Turnipseed of Alabama.

Here is an excerpt from one story recently posted here at FR:

"The media is now re-examining the story, though, and the Bush-haters are quite happy about it. As this story in today's Washington Post indicates, there is plenty of evidence Bush was not AWOL from his Guard duties. Indeed, one of the foundational pieces of the Bush-haters' lie is the failure of a colonel in Alabama to recall Bush ever being on post.

Reached in Montgomery yesterday, Turnipseed stood by his contention that Bush never reported to him. But Turnipseed added that he could not recall if he, himself, was on the base much at that time."

As 2003 begins, greed and violence are being glorified, romanticized and marketed by the U. S. power structure in a manner unparalleled in recent history. Not since the out-of-control acquisitiveness and martial madness of ancient Rome destroyed its arrogant empire has such material and military excessiveness so dominated a culture. The Bush administration’s intentions to control much of the world’s energy resources with military might and become the top cop to an unruly world are evident beneath the guise of economic globalization and the continuing “war against terrorism” and an “axis of evil.”

More credible reports from reliable scientific authorities reveal that carbon dioxide omissions from overuse of fossil fuels are causing global warming, but U.S. television is jammed with ads that glamorize gas-guzzling SUVs and giant pickup trucks. The SUVs entice adventure-seeking Americans to go on fantasy power trips across the rugged terrain of mountains and canyons while blue-collar guys in hulking trucks reap the longing looks of sexy young women.

Yet, the world’s consummate consumers slowed their profligate spending during the critical holiday season, and even administration apologists admitted that war jitters are causing a problem for the economy.

The lagging U.S. equity markets and the entire economy also were damaged by corporate scandals in 2002 that involved top administration officials who passed through the revolving door between U.S. corporations and public policymaking bodies. The scandals included President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Bush benefited personally as an official of Harken Energy, and Cheney made millions as chief executive officer of Halliburton Corp. (a giant in the energy and military arenas) from questionable business deals.

The war hype is the ultimate distraction for Bush, Inc. In fact, a White House memo recently revealed that the war on terrorism is the No. 1 issue for Bush’s reelection campaign in 2004. The media- savvy war makers have worked with Hollywood to produce war movies and have pressured their corporate media buddies to produce news/war talk shows friendly to the administration.

Cashing in on the war effort, the media/entertainment industry has risen to new heights as vendors of violence, with new war productions and incessant reruns of most every war movie and special in U.S. and world history, along with lots of killing and gratuitous violence in the ever-popular action/adventure extravaganzas. The industry peddles violence in a good vs. evil milieu to appeal to everyone from age 8 to 80.

Recently, the military enlisted reporters from big news organizations to go through boot camp at Ft. Benning in Georgia so that the reporters have a better chance of surviving combat in Iraq under the protection of the U.S. military. Maybe this is how truth becomes the first casualty of war.

Employing politics of fear since the 9/11 attacks against the United States, the corporate war planners of Bush, Inc. have manipulated emotions to a point of awakening latent anxieties among Americans about old adversaries in an “axis of evil.” You don’t have to be a marketing genius to sell a few generations of Americans on the idea that we have scores to settle with evil old foes like North Korea, Iran and Iraq.

Remember the bloody, “forgotten war” against North Korea that ended in 1953 with the deaths of more than 54,000 Americans but without a U.S. victory? Remember the humiliating standoff with Iran from 1979 to 1981 when more than 50 Americans were held hostage for 444 days? And, many red-blooded Americans are still smarting at the failure of Bush I to “finish the job” in Iraq by allowing Saddam Hussein to remain in power after the Persian Gulf War in 1991.

The cunning corporate war planners didn’t need a focus group to tell them that the mere mention of North Korea, Iran and Iraq conjures images of ill will and evil in the minds of good Americans. Because we have shed so much blood and spent so much money in previous altercations with these members of the “axis of evil,” we might as well settle our differences with these scoundrels once and for all, as our chief fear monger, George W. Bush, would say.

Before swaggering into a coffee shop in Texas for a New Year’s Eve cheeseburger with some of his hombres, High Sheriff Bush — with his flinty gaze fixed on the vast oil reserves of Iraq — allowed that diplomacy rather than force was needed in dealing with a nuclear-armed North Korea.

Thus, the immediate military option is reserved for Iraq, even though Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has said that we could whup ‘em both at the same time. No matter that North Korea might already have two deliverable nuclear warheads and recently expelled United Nations weapons inspectors, while Iraq has no nuclear weapons and is cooperating with U.N. weapons inspectors.

When questioned on New Year’s Eve about the inevitability of war with Iraq, Bush replied to a reporter, “I’m the person who decides that, not you.” Reminds me of a Caesar of imperial Rome contemplating world conquest as hordes of barbarians gather at the gates.

The story is to defuse the issue of Sen. John "Freekin" Kerry's (D-NVA) hijinks after he left the Service (Kerry was in Viet Nam don't you know).

We must remember that Edwards is a lawyer, so he's a manipulator. The old charge is rejuvenated against Bush ostensibly from the camps WITH military service. Edwards is detached from the sparring wearing his halo.

The most recent serious attack on this subject occurred February 1, when MacAuliffe spewed his foul accusations on ABC News with Stephi. Articles in the Boston Globe and Newsweek bringing up Kerry's connection with Johnny Chung (Clinton era money man) were out February 2. The AWOL 'news' stepped all over these stories. Nothing.... even on Fox.

Edwards' connection to Turnipseed would indicate that he's at the epicenter. The results with Turnipseed and AWOL are staggering. Certainly makes him look like THE source.

Not sure what exposure Edwards is trying to cover. This is likely a diversion probably hatched by the Clintons since these three are 'their guys' (for as long as they need them).

Fox is STILL on the topic as I type!

But even if there isn't any, it sure looks like Will is doing this for the Dems. He has no record, and when pushed he backpedals.

He just says enough to keep the story recycling--even though it has been shot down numerous times over the last four plus years.

It sure looks like he is working for somebody.

You're right, Tom Turnipseed was born in Montgomery Alabama. That is where Will Turnipseed was Bush's CO and where Will has retired to.

I would bet you anything they are closely related. Given their ages, they are probably brothers.

Tom Turnipseed is now a president of the trial lawyers (in South Carolina), so that is probably why Will gave Edwards the $500.
Tom Turnipseed isn't just your run of the mill ex-Dem Senator and Democrat Party Exec. Tom is also a member of the radical left ADA.

He is a rabid Bush-hater and whackjob more along the lines of Michael Moore.

He is a regular on "Democracy Now!" and in the pages of the most hard left publications.
