A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

February 3, 1959 The Day The Music Died
On a cold winter's night on February 3, 1959, a small private plane took off from Clear Lake, Iowa bound for Fargo, N.D. It never made its destination.
When that plane crashed, it claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "Big Bopper" Richardson and the pilot, Roger Peterson. Three of Rock and Roll's most promising performers were gone.
Jiles P. Richardson, known as The Big Bopper to his fans, was a Texas D.J. who found recording success and fame in 1958 with the song "Chantilly Lace".
Richie Valenzuela was only 16 years old when Del-Fi record producer, Bob Keane, discovered the Pacoima, California singer. Keane rearranged his name to Ritchie Valens, and in 1958 they recorded "Come On, Let's Go". Far more successful was the song Valens wrote for his girlfriend, "Donna", and its flip side, "La Bamba", a Rock and Roll version of an old Mexican standard. This earned the teenager an appearance on American Bandstand and the prospect of continued popularity.
Charles Hardin "Buddy" Holley (changed to Holly due to a misspelling on a contract) and his band, The Crickets, had a number one hit in 1957 with the tune "That'll Be The Day". This success was followed by "Peggy Sue" and an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. By 1959, Holly had decided to move in a new direction. He and the Crickets parted company. Holly married Maria Elena Santiago and moved to New York with the hope of concentrating on song writing and producing.

In keeping with the month of February, which is dedicated to Love and Lovers, I close today's post with one of Buddy Holly's songs about true love's ways.
"True Love Ways"
Hey, don't forget tomorrow, February 4th, is "Create a Vacuum Day and Thank a Mailman Day". (And if anyone wants to test their 'vacuum', I'll volunteer my house as the test site.)

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

:) Hi, Amy - thank you! We know how much you appreciate the graphics, and that's one reason it's so much fun doing them for you. Plus, it's just plain fun making them! We BOTH agree on THAT! It's even more fun knowing there are no boundaries or limits on the themes (well, outside of lewd or vulgar of course! LOL) because you WILL find a poem to fit!

Hope I'm not in trouble for jumping the gun - we had lots of wind last Sat. so we went kite flying.Well, guess there's no reason you can't fly a kite any 'other' day, so long as you fly it on February 8th, too! :)
String broke on Christian's and it was last seen flying southeast over the roof-tops.
Awwww, doggone it - did you have to go buy him another one? :)

From what I'vc come across in my Google searches, I could probably find at least one for lewd and vulgar!
But ..... don't go there, I don't want to lose my NetNanny approval rating. It's bad enough having JustFrank hanging around. LOL

LOL!!! Yeah, right. If there is one thing we know about our wolfie, it's how much he just HATES having a fuss made over him. ;-)

I didn't realize that February was such a busy month! Isn't this Leap Year? And doesn't that mean something like Sadie Hawkins Day or "Ladies get to do just about anything" month?
Decided to see if I could play today. The flu is nasty!

Oops, forgot to italicize. I'm not thinking clearly because of this antihistamine I took earlier. I shouldn't even be posting - definitely shouldn't be driving or operating heavy machinery. So, I think I will go take a nap. LOL.

...did you have to go buy him another one? :) Nope. We've got extras. Learned our lesson last year. Two kites still up in the neighbors tree. :)

Hi, dixie - wish you were well. :(
Yes, this is Leap Year, as a matter of fact.
And doesn't that mean something like Sadie Hawkins Day or "Ladies get to do just about anything" month?
I thought we got to do that anyway. :)

Ah, that crocus peeking through the snow looks like a perfect new Welcome for Amy's Place. A crocus peeking through the snow is a welcome picture for sure. I am going to "CROAK" (croc) if spring doesn't hurry up! :-)

What a cute thread Billie! It is nice to see that there really are things to be thankful for this month! I thought the only good thing was Valentine's Day, (because of the candy of course) but you proved me wrong!
(invent a vacuum day?)
