Janet Apologizes, Says Super Bowl Stunt Went Too Far
One day after Janet Jackson's shocking Super Bowl halftime performance, the singer took responsibility for the breast-baring incident and said she never intended the stunt to go as far as it did.
"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals," Jackson said in a statement released Monday (February 2). "MTV was completely unaware of it. It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL."
Jackson's performance shocked onlookers when Justin Timberlake who was performing with her pulled off a piece of Jackson's costume, revealing her right breast.
MTV, which produced the halftime show for CBS, issued an apology shortly after the show, calling the incident "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and ... inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance" (see "Janet, Justin, MTV Apologize For Super Bowl Flash").
Timberlake also apologized on Sunday, calling the incident "not intentional and regrettable."
On Sunday, Jackson's reps told MTV News that the singer apologized for the move, but the singer issued no public statement on the incident until Monday.

Yes, it is. Dwell on it.

Any publicity is good publicity...I truly don't think so in this case.I think you're right. I think these two will be seen as pretty hard up --- I doubt there are many kids who boast of either their Janet Jackson or Timberlake CD collections. Timberlake is trying so hard to catch up to his former fellow Disney Mickey Mouse club members by trying to be baaaad like them --- but they're all just teen celebrities far past their talents and now their ages can take them.

It is interesting that 4 generations were watching the game. ALL of them left at half time to eat. The youngest generation left because mom and dad took them out to the kitchen.
The youngest adult generation all groaned when they said JJ was doing the half time show. They are the 20-30 group and didn't want to even have to put up with it.
I have to wonder who is her target audience if the under 25 crowd didn't want to see her either.

Oh my goodness, I'm old. Of course, it was some 20+ years ago that I was in the Air Force.LOL. You're not old, your just "seasoned".
I understood your original post's meaning. I still remember my first Air Force haircut (head shaving) in basic training at San Antonio (they even made us pay for it out of our first "paycheck"). I also remember then having to go through the "pinger" phase until it grew out (hopefully some others here will know what a pinger was). But later we generally referred to getting a regulation haircut as "having your ears lowered". Ah, the good old days, when men were men, women were women, and seeing pasties was something you had to go to a specific location, and pay, to see. I don't speak from experience about that of course!

"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals," Jackson said in a statement released Monday Sounds like it WAS intentional! And I don't believe for a minute that MTV didn't know about it! That network is all about "how can we shock them today"!

I agree with you.
We were watching and never noticed a thing. We were not glued to the set though untill the game came back on.
How come no one is upset about her huge mammory gland in a large photo on Drudge.
No one complaining about the streaker.
It was a stupid stunt. I have seen just as foul on other tv shows.
Seeing how the Al Quaida were warning us of a big event perhaps during the Super BOwl they planned it to show how indescent Americans are. After all they are backing the MJ and his alledged perversion.
Wonder is the Nation of Islam gives to NAMBLA too.
The act was a PR mistake. Janet after seeing he boob on drudge may consider a lift to help her career.

This was on the boob tube ?

Janet was wearing a pastie, and she is too stupid to know that the world knows she is lying.Yes, I know, that's besides the point. Anyone who didn't expect her to do this wasn't paying much attention to her career in the last 10 years. If this happens to put her into musical obscurity, she's wholly responsible.

Sounds like the "modified, limited, hang-out defense" that Nixon decided to use at one point in Watergate!
(Pun fully intended.)

"Jeez I am sick of hearing stuff like that. Most everyone I know saw it for what it was, a trashy attempt to shock... but it didn't."
So...let me understand this. I'm sick of hearing and seeing the crap that passes for entertainmnet these days, but I can't say anything because you're sick of hearing stuff like this?
"I am sorry. I guess your opinions and outlooks come from what or who you know."
Yeah...halfway decent people.

Nope.
But i know enough parents to know that they don't know half of what they're children are being exposed to anyway.
Most kids probably never would've noticed it happened if people hadn't blown it out of proportion. Now any kid who didn't notice as it was happening has probably seen the replays anyway.

Ripping their clothes off? I think that's slightly dramatic. You see more skin on women in primetime these days.
i don't think it was right for them to do it. But there's bigger problems in this world right now that take priority over two seconds of celebrity exposure.

Janet has jumped the shark. Buh, bye.
To: Cathryn Crawford
fyi: she "looked" like she was naked. she actually had a beige body suit on. not that, it's excusable. i didn't like that stupid kiss with Madonna tho--at least that was MTV (known shock source). things like that happening on the Superbowl--well as they say totally unexcusable. frankly i wish Britney would stay away from Justin Timberlake. I agree with Scenic--the way he treated Britney after their breakup and the things he said--what a jerk.
