NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.
The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.
The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.
Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.
"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."
Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."
The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.
"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.
"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."
MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

My theory is that the media-types noted the stir caused by the Madonna/Britney Spears liplock and decided to go for broke. Without the lesbian kiss happening, the human padiddle would never have occurred.
Agreed. Next headline will be....
"Justin's still in love with Britney!"
Justin Timberlake is still in love with Britney Spears. Contrary to his claim of the superbowl snafoo being a wardrobe error, Sources at MTV say it was cleverly orchestrated and rehearsed as a personal and private reponse to Britney Spears lesbian smooch with Madonna.

My wife breastfed all our children. Of course some folks have problems with this when you're in a restaurant, even when you are covered. Now I don't think Janet Jackson is planning to do any breastfeeding soon, if ever, especially with a pin through her nipple which I understand actually ruins the nipple structure.

In my family a car with a missing/broke tail light was called a "diddlepit"..
timberlake and jackson's performance was in the "diddlepit"

"No, I don't."
You shouldn't be so quick to find fault with us parents who might seem somewhat "prude" to you, and those of us who do see that whole trashy half-time display a threat to our kids and our morality. Yeah, I could have changed the channel, but who the heck knew as I got up to use the bathroom and fetch another beer that my kids would be exposed to that kind of worthless piece of trash for a halftime show during prime-time T.V. on CBS during an NFL experience.
And here's a shock for you......I don't find any fault with you for your point of view because I now know it's biased in a non-parental kind of way.

"You're talking to the wrong chica. At 35, I'm twice the age of the demographic that finds him manly."
But that's around Janet's age...the two dated briefly last year. I was mentioning to my husband last night that Justin Timberlake has zero appeal...go figure?

I don't ~fault~ anyone here.... I find the whole hubbub amusing.

Well actually Jackson broke her headlight, and the highbeam was a special aftermarket upgrade. Nevertheless, I don't follow your reasoning.

In my day (affecting grandfatherly tone here) the girls were crazy about Donnie Osmond, Scott Baio, Andy Gibb, Eric Estrada...Yeah, I can see the appeal I guess...
but Justin Timberlake?
???
Somebody 'splain it to me!

You shouldn't and here's why. That half-time show last night (and it was more than just the boob hanging out) represents the final straw for a lot of parents.
Many parents try to sensor as best as humanly possible the trash to which their children are subjected to, especially at such a young and formative age. What parent really thought they needed to sensor that half-time experience? The Superbowl is a family event, it's not MTW and lewd and crass behaviour on display only for adults. AND, if that was what it was to become......then CBS and the NFL owed it's veiwers an advance warning.
Let me see if I can create an analogy for you.....Let's say I sit down one evening with my family to watch one of those wholesome re-runs of "Andy Griffith" and right in the middle of that show as Barney is trying to show Opie how to throw a baseball the station/picture is highjacked and on pops the screen are two individuals engaged in sex. And let's say, in the middle of "Andy Griffith" the phone rang and I took the call in another room and had left my children in the room to watch the remaining part of that episode just before that took place.....

Your analogy had to exaggerate the offense to one that actually would warrant the actual upset here.
If this was your final straw.... then you already had a pretty overloaded camel.

"They should be apologizing for the entire show. Why do they think America would want to watch that crap?"
If you surveyed their general programing they don't give a rats behind about what America wants to watch. It is the reason why viewership on the networks is circling the toilet.
They have an agenda of liberalism that you will be forced to watched and you better not belly ache about it.
The only thing that I am surprised about is that these boob shot was male/female. The broadcast medium has been pushing homosexuals the past few years.
You will accept that we are all just a bunch of fine animals, that the behavior of the gay bath-house is mainstream, and behavior that would make you swat your dog is art, and if you don't have 4 sexually transmitted diseases by age 14 you are out of touch.
Bring back the gladiators.

Someone suggested that each one of the Democratic candidates be asked at the next debate how this issue should be treated, as well as the flag issue. Great idea! The Left needs to be shown for what it is.
To: Prolifeconservative
The argument has always been, "Hey, if you don't like it, change the channel."
As much as many would LOVE to use that argument here, they can't. This was a deliberate visual sexual assault; an intentional ambush aimed at shocking a prime-time audience. This was talentless garbage knowingly aimed at an audience that represents a cross-section of America: children, parents, grandparents, the religious and the irreligious.
Decent people are rightly outraged, and as much as the amoral, anything-goes crowd tries to make us into the bad guys, it doesn't wash. Their protests indicate that their morals are in the toilet.
There is no point arguing with someone who sees nothing wrong with launching an attack against the minds of young children. It is the mindset of the pedophile, and it is beneath contempt.

AMEN!
Even Rush got it wrong today ( did you listen ). Well, the fact is not lost on me that Rush Limbaugh, stellar conservative that he is, is NOT a parent. His basic premise was: "why is everyone so upset about this, it's been going on for a while now, the culture decay, etc." And he's right, BUT......Can't we at least expect the time-honored Superbowl to respect the moral code of decency. Has our culture now rotted to the point that viewers shouldn't be dismayed or upset when see crotch-grabbing, suggestive-hip-moving, and bare breast in the same venue where we sing and honor our National Anthem?

Yeah, I listened to Rush and was very disappointed in him.
I'm not a parent either, but anyone with an ounce of decency should recognize this garbage for what it it and be outraged.
The essence of Rush's argument was that those who were outraged were the ones at fault. If this was some sort of brilliant sarcasm on his part, it was lost on me. Maybe he's back on his dope.
