CBS Apologizes for Jackson's Exposure (MTV will not produce another Halftime show)

NEW YORK - CBS apologized for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake (news) tore off part of Janet Jackson (news)'s top, exposing her breast.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.

Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.

"I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said in a statement. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."

Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

MTV issued a contrite statement, saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

You don't see a difference between Michelangelo and Larry Flynt?

I pity you.

LOLIYF!

Either you truly don't see the difference, or you're promoting sleaze for the sake of it, and denigrating what is truly good and wholesome in the process.

You're choices above are only as limited as your imamgination. That you came up with this particular either/or, then, is not suprising.

Boobs are good and wholesome.

You have problems.

No, I have solutions. And this is one for you: "Lighten up, Francis".

The best part of the half-time show was Nelly. You could almost see the producer screaming at him through the earpiece to stop grabbing his crotch. He'd grab then his hand would jump away then slowly and tentatively head back then jump away again then be OK then suddenly fly back and jump away again. Unintentionally hilarious, I'm sure Nelly has some permanent damage in one ear from that, and the producer is probably still sucking on lozenges.

Why is the Super Bowl the only NFL game where the half-time show is shown?

For what it is worth -

The ultimate in bad taste wasn't the Janet Jackson boob-on-the-boob-tube, it was Arrowsmith.

A band of noise makers from the mothballs of no-talent-screaming in a Space Shuttle sequence one year after Columbia. And the tribute to Columbia the wording was repugnant - "They made a deep and lasting immpression...."

Who dreams up this $hit?

Tagliabue is concerned about showboating in the end zone while his league puts on a display like this?

I would have but I couldn't find the phone number. Didn't have much time to look, though. Business is, well, busy. What's the number?

Wow...comparing the magnificent art of the Church to a gunmetal, solar burst on a silicone enhanced breast is a true stretch. The art you posted is a celebration of the joy of creation; of man's place in Heaven and on earth...Miz Jackson's was just going for the shock factor. Would anybody be talking about her and Timberlake's, eh, performances, without the 'controversy?' And wasn't CBS promoting the Grammy's (or maybe they will just call them the 'Mammy's (for the, no doubt, prominent display of mammary glands...gotta top Janet!) where Miz Jackson will appear again? And have to ask, will we be subjected to another tiny voiced Jackson denial...Michael's, LaToya's, now Janet...'oh but I didn't know Mr. Timberlake would reach over and assault me...oh we were raised so strictly as Jehovah's Witnesses...ohhh.' PUHLEASE!!!!!!!!!

I tried to run this through babelfish, but it gave me an "illegal operation" error and shut down. I wish I could help.

But breast!!! Oh my God, any representation of life or even a hint of female sexuality offends me to the point of righteous indignation....

Whoa. Not the point for some of us. Speaking for myself, it was the aggressive act that exposed the breast that is the real issue and sure as heck not the sort of behavior that I care for my 13 or 16 year old sons to emulate.

Your welcome to do just that Porterville. But you didn't answer the questions posed.

I take it you don't watch porn with your Mom and Dad but have no problem with it being inflicted on families gathered around to watch a damn football game.

Nobody wants to deny you the right to be a libertine ideologue whackjob, we just want our football absent libertines.

I guess she & Michael BOTH like young boys, huh?

Actually Janet is the one who likes women, out of the two.

I hope you aren't a parent. A man ripping a woman's clothes off is not something I want my 10 and 12 year old boys seeing. They saw it, alright.

That's a weak apology. Somebody else is to blame, not me. Ha!

There is still one more game on their schedule, the Pro Bowl from Hawaii. A boycott might be in order.

Moral equivalence of sacred art and the Janet Jackson display?

Yes. Breasts have no intrinsic morality. That's the point. They are just breasts. Just as ears are ears, and hair is hair. You don't toss on a bhurka because just because some yahoo says that hair is evil.

Sorry, I'm not buying it.

Common sense isn't something you purchase. Use your head instead.

For one thing, there wasn't any religious message to Janet Jackson.

And what's the other thing?

Would it make you feel better if she sang "Amazing Grace" in the clothes God gave her?

It amazes me that so many churches arrange their schedules around the Super Bowl. I bet that changes now.

Our's did.

It won't happen again.

They had simulated sex during their 'show'.

Glad I missed it. I was watching the History Channel's "History of the Bible" during Halftime, and I'm thankful they provided alternate entertainment to those of us who fog out on the 'popular' culture.

You have got to be a baby-boomer... it looks like the hippies stressed out the straights to the point of absolute "missed priorities"...

Makes sense. I haven't really thought about the Yin-Yang association of the baby boomers, just the liberal angle.
