Democratic presidential front-runner John F. Kerry pledged on Saturday that if he becomes president he'll treat terrorist acts against the U.S. as a law enforcement problem rather than as acts of war - the approach favored by President Clinton throughout the 1990's as Osama bin Laden repeatedly struck U.S. targets with impunity.
Speaking before a group of Oklahoma City firefighters, Kerry complained that the Bush adminsitration "doesn't understand the war on terror."
Under a Kerry administration, he said, the fight against terrorism "will involve the military now and then," but it will be "primarily an intelligence gathering, law enforcement operation."
"It's a great big manhunt," Kerry explained. "[The Bush] administration has translated that legitimate threat into a completely wrongheaded kind of full-fledged military response."
Since 9/11, U.S. terrorism experts have said that the Clinton administration's legalistic approach to fighting al Qaeda not only proved ineffective - it actually emboldened bin Laden to the point where he thought he could launch an attack on U.S. soil without prompting a serious military response.
Indeed, in a 2002 speech to New York business leaders, Mr. Clinton himself cited legal concerns as an excuse for his decision not to have bin Laden arrested five years before the 9/11 attacks.
"At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America," said Clinton. "So I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America."

I'm finally starting to get tired. Think I'll check that Pickering thread. The nasty poster landed on other threads tonight, so I must see if he ever had the guts to respond to us. I doubt it.

"...who signed up when we did..."Hmmm. Good catch. Not many '98s and '99s, but some strange names from the summer of 2000.
Well, we've had sleepers before, and dealt with them. Stay well...............FRegards

Did I hear someone say "Madam President?" President Rice not Clinton. :) :) :) OOH!!!! What sweet music to our ears. I only hope that Bush does something to give even higher visibility to our future Madam President during his second term. She's my No.1 choice also.

Yes, " sleepers " is right. I saw four '98ers, only one of whose nics I even vaguely remembered and the others were unknown to me. I have a far better than average memory, we weren't all that many, back then , and all of us interacted a LOT.
And get this...............they didn't know me from a hole in the ground. Now,I'm NOT vain, but really, gonzo, I'm pretty hard to miss. LOL
Hope all is going well with you. Feeling okay ?
To: dixiechick2000
Yep, we DO need a few more " happy " times here. :-)
It's been a hoot.
And THANK YOU !
To: dixiechick2000
Yes, I know. :-)
It's really a terrible shame that ALL of us live so far away from each other.

Happy times and a hoot...we need more of both. ;o) I'm going to turn in now. It's been so much fun! Take care, you two, and we'll be in touch very soon.
"It's really a terrible shame that ALL of us live so far away from each other."
Yes, it is. What I find truly amazing is that WE...ALL OF US...know each other, and enjoy each other. The internet is, truly, a miracle.
Sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite. ;o)

It's way past my " new " bed time. Time for me to hit the hay too.
Pleasant dreams and sleep well.

In my opinion FR is no longer a conservative forum. The dims have really worked hard with their army of candidates to travel the country bashing Bush and this forum has fallen prey to them too.
Anyone who thinks Kerry or any other dem would be better than Bush is no conservative. They want another attack on our soil so they can say his policy failed. They spread hate and discord and say Bush cannot bring harmony in DC.
Wake up America!

I watched something the other day that a Freeper had put together about 9/11, something like "never forget." It had a loop of an Enya song, and I sat there sobbing as I watched it. But I was also sooooo angry at the liberals who want to "take our country back." Sorry, but I will NEVER go back to those days.
I think that video should be shown on a regular basis to remind people of the horror we all went through that day. I know it'll be painful but WE CAN NEVER FORGET!
I KNOW that's why the networks wanted to sweep those reminders under the rug....they knew those horrible images would slowly fade with time, making it that much easier to put another Democrat/Socialist in power as President.
Which makes them even more despicable to me.
