JFK's 1st. book, "Why England Slept", accuses and convicts the pacifists of Britain and the unmerited over confidence of the French that encouraged Hitler's expansion in '38, '39 and 1940. JFK was certainly not a pacifist. However, the Democratic Party and LBJ's disaster at running the war in Vietnam has given new voice to those who sing the old and dangerous song of disarmament, appeasement and sanction. The last three are a guarantee of war.

1962
On May 19, 1962, President Kennedy publicly celebrated his birthday at Madison Square Garden with 15,000 people in attendance. The most memorable moment of the evening was when Marilyn Monroe sang 'Happy Birthday'. She appeared in a $5,000 flesh colored, beaded gown which she was literally sewn into. After her performance, the President responded, "Thank you. I can now retire from politics after having had 'Happy Birthday' sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way." |

JFK was a complete disaster in foreign policy: berlin wall, laos, vietnam, cuba, almost got us into a nuclear war and then left the commies in cuba anyway. I dont know if he lied about the "missle gap" but he wanted a strong defense, and he later admitted that there was no missle gap under eisenhower - that he was wrong.
But JFk was an NRA member, he worked to get tax cuts thru, he sincerely wanted to reduce organized crime, and except for allowing the banning of concealed guns on airplanes, domestically, he was pretty fair.
