Take a Bite Out of PETA!

Posted January 19, 2004

Despite its deceptively warm-and-fuzzy public image, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has donated over $150,000 to criminal activists -- including those jailed for arson, burglary, and even attempted murder. In 2001, PETA donated $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front, a criminal organization that the FBI classifies as "domestic terrorists." And since 2000, rank-and-file PETA activists have been arrested over 80 times for breaking various laws during PETA protests. Charges included felony obstruction of government property, criminal mischief, assaulting a cabinet official, felony vandalism, performing obscene acts in public, destruction of federal property, and burglary.

Like millions of other nonprofit groups in the United States (e.g., universities , houses of worship, social service organizations), PETA pays no federal taxes on its income. But few of these other tax-exempt groups share PETA's total disregard for the law. In 2002 PETA collected over $17 million from Americans, avoiding over $3 million in federal income taxes. Because this tax break amounts to a huge subsidy, every American taxpayer is footing the bill for PETA's behavior.

PETA's tax-exempt status was granted by the U.S. government on the basis of the group's willingness to conduct itself in a lawful fashion. We believe that PETA has failed to live up to its end of the bargain, and that the Internal Revenue Service should cancel PETA's tax-exempt status.

If you agree, please add your name and contact information below. Your "signature" -- along with those of thousands of other Americans -- will be used to encourage U.S. government officials to take action. PETA is currently being investigated by the IRS, so this is the perfect time to make your opinion known.

People Enjoying Tasty Animals

PETA is a barrel of laughs for me year round. My old room mate's g/f is an animal lover, and I used to give her more grief. She would ask what I was making for dinner, and I would tell her something like grilled pepper filets that came from a package with the animal's name (Clarise the cow etc.)on it.

Hey, at my school the vegans are trying to halt experimentation on fruit flies and bacteria. Yeah, when they build anaerobic incubators to care for the defenseless bacteria they dump from their bodies every day, then they can talk about experimentation on bacteria.

Nope. One of the vegans, who is not a bio major, took an upper level bio course, apparently for the express purpose of raising a stink about using E. coli. They want an "alternative" for those students who feel the use bacteria and fruit flies is immoral. I think they ought to get a statement by the prof on the first day of class to the effect of "In this class, you will be using real biological techniques that include the dissection of real, not virtual, animals and the use of bacteria and fruit flies. If you don't think you can stomach it or feel as though doing this is against your conscience, then this is the wrong field of study for you and you should take advantage of the drop/add period. Don't come to me later with petitions to save the fruit flies. You have been warned."

I hope she realizes that her own gut kills bacteria by the millions daily.

In a standard bowel movement, there are about 3-5 times more live bacteria than there are cells in the human body.
