"Four charged with making, selling fraudulent IDs"

January 27, 2004

BY FRANK MAIN Crime Reporter

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Four people were charged Monday with running a fake document mill in the Little Village neighborhood on Chicago's West Side.

Blank Social Security cards, resident alien cards and permanent resident cards were seized from a home in the 1400 block of South Cicero, said Chicago police Sgt. Phil Leibas of the Marquette Park police district. Police said they also recovered computers and other equipment to make the IDs.

The documents were worth more than $175,000 on the street, Leibas said. An informant provided a tip leading to the arrests, he said."

Interesting find on ItsHappening:

Norway's link to Iraq suicide attacks
23 Jan 2004

Author: By Gorill Husby

OSLO - Investigations into several suicide bombings in Iraq now center on a man held in detention in Norway.

Mullah Krekar, founder of the radical Kurdish Islamist group Ansar-al-Islam, was ordered to be held in custody by an appeals court in Oslo last week. The refugee-turned-guerrilla leader from Jordan will remain behind bars for another four weeks pending further investigation. Krekar has been detained over investigations into suicide bombings in northern Iraq and the murder of a rival Kurdish leader in the spring of 2002.

Krekar was arrested in Norway on January 2. A court in Oslo ruled three days later there was not enough evidence to keep him in jail, much to the dismay of the United States. But he has been kept in custody after an order from an appeals court, which ruled that it was probable that Krekar "has had and still has a central position in Ansar-al-Islam" and that he "still wields considerable influence on the activity of the organization".

Police investigators are connecting the mullah to suicide bombings after tracing his activity on the Internet. The police say e-mails he sent contained coded messages to terror groups around the world. Krekar was also said to have justified suicide bombings as a form of jihad, or holy war.

US Attorney General John Ashcroft made an unprecedented visit to Oslo last September. He spoke then of Ansar-al-Islam as a "very dangerous group" that had set up a network of terrorist training camps in northern Iraq. "He was very interested in Krekar," Norwegian Foreign Secretary Jan Petersen said after his meeting with Ashcroft.

Krekar's arrest early this month coincides with an effort by European intelligence agencies to locate Ansar-al-Islam terrorist cells, intelligence sources say. Krekar has claimed that he has not led Ansar-al-Islam since May 2002. But authorities in Norway say he has continued to be active both as the spiritual and actual leader of the group, and that he has been organizing suicide attacks in northern Iraq.

Today, the bearded cleric denies any links with the group regarded as a terrorist organization by the US and the United Nations, saying he has been living a quiet life with his wife and children in an apartment in Oslo.

Hamas in the Florida Classroom
By Daniel Pipes & Asaf Romirowsky
FrontPageMagazine.com | January 27, 2004

We broke the news in October 2003 that Mustafa Abu Sway, a visiting Palestinian professor at Florida Atlantic University, is “known as an activist” in Hamas, a group on the U.S. government’s terrorism list. We also revealed that his salary is being paid by the U.S. taxpayer (via the Fulbright exchange program).

Our little scoop met with yawns or with disbelief. Abu Sway himself denounced our article as a “witch hunt.” FAU ignored the revelation (“we have no reason to take any action”). The hometown Palm Beach Post published four skeptical responses, including an editorial insisting that “there is no known evidence” against Abu Sway.

Actually, being named as “a known activist” in Hamas by the Israeli government – who knows terrorism better? – qualifies in itself as “evidence,” but we since October have learned that Abu Sway also:

Yes, this is something that needs to be seen by all people in the West. I will disseminate this link widely.

Iran and Russia are in a military alliance.

They will attack the US and Israel.

STATE'S NEXT SAUDI SELLOUT

By JOEL MOWBRAY

January 26, 2004 -- THE commission probing the 9/11 attacks won't like what it hears today.
A chief witness will be Chief of Consular Affairs Maura Harty, the woman in charge of the State Department's processing of visas. She'll undoubtedly be grilled on how several hijackers got visas despite plainly dubious applications. And she may have to explain the program "Visa Express," which let all Saudi residents apply for visas at private Saudi travel agencies - until Congress made State stop it, 10 months after 9/11.

JP - a good buy, IMHO! I got 4 of them plus the stove.

If you want Thyro block, check out:

http://ki4u.com

They are not the cheapest, but they get you the goods PRONTO as they ship priority mail.

You can also find info/links there to a handy contraption called a "NukAlert". It's a RAD detector that fits on your keychain and "chirps" one or more times when it detects radiation. They cost about $160 there. I ordered one recently - hope it is here today or tomorrow.

(BTW..like always, I don't have any affiliation with any of the sites I mention but just pass them along in case anyone is interested. I've spent dozens of hours researching all of this stuff, and maybe it will help someone else out there).

If I get a chance sometime in the next day or so I'll try to post a list of things that I think are "essential" to have for emergency prep, along with sources. I've found some pretty good stuff.

AMEN to that!

I, too, make sure to say "and MERRY CHRISTMAS to you as well!" whenever some idiot tries to be "PC" and wishes me "Happy Holidays".

Sometimes, it gets uncomfortable, and I feel like I may be seen as "un-PC". But, at last count, something like 88% of the US supports CHRISTMAS and I refuse to let it get squashed like all of our other values and traditions have been.

Poohbah - just curious..are you speaking from direct experience, or (like a lot of us) things you've read on the 'net?

Not direct experience, but from reading the relevant history (including primary source material from the AEC and DOE). I've read Chuck Hansen's work on nuclear weapons history, and he goes into some detail on the storage and maintenance issues. A lot of money was spent on trying to develop a "wooden bomb" that wouldn't need very much maintenance; these efforts were not successful.

It occurs to me that there are a LOT of Rusky/Pakistani/N. Korean scientists who are available for hire, and lots and LOTS of "material" floating around to "service" rogue nukes.

Sure. They're going to bring those materials into the United States and service the weapons? There goes the covert posture.

I would like to believe the "it takes too much maintenance for these to remain active" angle VERY much, but I am of the (uneducated and uniformed) opinion that there are most likely ways around the "shelf-life" issue.

Yeah, there are...but not if the weapons are allegedly inside the United States. Servicing them is a major OPSEC hazard.

Guys - I'm a techie by trade, and work with Java & Javascript.

Javascript cannot harm your PC. It does not have "write" access to your hard drive, etc.

I'm curious as to what you all think is happening from the CN&V site, or itshappening, etc.

You DO have to be careful with your IP if you're like me and on a "fixed" IP address that never changes. (Obviously, once a hacker knows it, they can try to attack your PC directly - but a good firewall stops that. Get ZoneAlarm if you don't have one).

Methinks JavaScript and Cookies get a bum rap. Those of us who work with the technology directly know what it can do, and what the "urban legends" are. I would not be so concerned about either of these, but that's JMHO. (But DO watch your IP if you don't have a firewall!)

There are mass emailings going around saying within the next 24 hours there will be mass confusion in the US or words to that effect.

As I've said before..I do SO love it when they post dates.

WHEN nothing happens, we can adjust our perceptions of credibility accordingly.

Of course, with that said..we DO appreciate the "heads up" info that people like Sean provide.

1.) NEIN monitoring of real jihad forums reveals that in the past few hours ALL SUBSTANTIVE CHATTER HAS CEASED. There is nothing. Period.

IMHO, this could also indicate that there's been a massive "roundup" of the bad guys.

I've always been of the opinion that the BB "chatter" is produced by VERY few people posting to multiple boards. If those guys have been taken out, it'd get quiet very quickly.

Of course, maybe the "quiet before the storm" angle is the case..

If the FBI said the Guard who was shot was telling the truth, then they would need to cancel the Super Bowl, as we would be afraid to go.

Remember the man in Las Vegas who overheard a phone conversation that Las Vegas would be attacked, about July of 2003? or was it 2002?

The man still to this day says he told the truth.

After all the threats for New Years in Las Vegas, it seems that he was being truthful.

There is an old saying "Don't look at a gift horse in the mouth". If you did, it would show how old it was and you might decline owning it and miss having a wonderful horse.

The FBI decide to not have folks knowing what they are doing, we know that they are making strides in the right direction, but by not admitting it, it keeps the terrorists off kilter and easier to trip up.

If the shooter of the Guard thinks he is in the clear, he will try again and hopefully be tripped up.

If the shooter is driven underground, then we won't find him and he is free to carry out the "big one".

On the capture of OBL, it does not matter if he is captured as yet, I would guess that the release of the news on his capture is going exactly as planned.

If you and I don't know the truth, think of the confusion in the mind of a terrorist.

"Is it all over? Do I still have a leader? What do I do next? and a million more questions.

Somehow, making OBL a saint in hell, isn't going to help the cause.

Ruth's thoughts this cold morning.

Old men buy a sports car, well Ruth at almost 60, bought land in the Black Mountains and one of those old horses, so she could learn to ride.

Lady was wonderful, she never moved fast enough to dump me and took me for a walk every sunday.

Today it is closer to town and only cats for love.
