No confusion. I understand that we are going to forgive them for breaking the law and allow them to continue working. Sure they are going to have to pay a fee, you can call it a "fine" if you like, and have to leave the country in 5 years and then they can come back legally.
First, the law is currently to deport them. How about enforcing that law.
Second, what makes you think they will not just sneak back in after they leave the country in 5 years (if they actually leave). What happens if they don't? We have people that overstay their visas, that is a good indicator of what will happen.
Third, what makes you think that they will sign up? They did not do the legal thing to come into the country, why should they do the legal thing to stay? What happens if they don't?

So what if he supported President Bush's unconstitutional Campaign Finance Reform bill?
How quickly we forget it was the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill until it was signed by the President.

Tell ex that the dip in Bush's numbers.......what is that, from 59% to 58%?........ are not due to a falling support among his base, whose support remains unchanged at 90%.
They are most likely due to the attention being paid by the media to the dippy dems, and the middle ground voters.

There are also a lot of DU disruptors who visit here from time to time. In terms of political impact, you're all in the same boat and I treat you all alike. I am from a conservative enclave in California (I'll take the flag with me when I leave). FR is not the only place where people are unhappy with Mr. Bush's policies. Read the latest poll numbers. Wake up and deal with reality - Bush is losing some of his base support over his liberal policies.

Well Wolfstar (and other posters) .. , I have read your "article".. and I have read most of the posts. There are the regulars and a few "new ones" at least to me.. posting.
Most of us have our set opinions on GWB and the direction the country is taking under his leadership.
Various threads I note have repitition of the same issue, points of view. Not sure any of us will change anyone's mind ....
I like to think I am open minded.(maybe a relative term?) I am conservative. But that is also relative term. I am also considered white (another relative term)...and tall for a woman (another relative term)and a spiritual person (yup, you know what goes here too).
We are all different here. Why would we expect each other to completely agree with us on every issue .. we get along best with those that think like us, that is life in general.
Well, I am open minded but I also am a "big picture " person. The big picture is who can win? what can be accomplished with supporting of a given candidate? I personally refuse to WASTE my vote on someone who doesn't have a dog's chance .. I might as well write in my or my DOG'S name as support a party/candidate who wont have a chance. It will just dilute the chance of someone else.Better to stay home & smash my hand in the door a few times.
so the obvious thought might be ... If you NAYSAYERS are SO very much against GWB , consider that to just defeat GWB & take a (HORROR OF HORROR) chance that someone like Dean might get elected, is scary. You scare me by not really thinking this through.

"My administration will work with the Congress to increase the annual number of green cards that can lead to citizenship. "
That quote can no way be interpreted as "I will give illegal immigrants citizenship in the future".
It simply means - we will increase legal immigration numbers. He did not propose green cards for temporary workers but rather permits for temporary workers. Of these temporary workers, *some* may be selected for green cards. When he said the permits will have an end, he said it for "participants who do not remain employed, who do not follow the rules of the program or who break a law"
Don't twist what's already a bad idea into something that's totally worse.

Oh sorry, wrong answer. They move to the northern states in the summer and move to southern & western states in the winter. Some do, but many/millions head for Mexico and live through the winter with their families. Why do you think that this is Mexico's top income?? Nice try.
Funny, I used to live down the road from a couple of apple farms and they used machines. We also had other agricultural farms around: corn, machine; soybeans, machine; hay, machine; wheat, machine.
Legume machines are far different than produce machines, course I wonder who is working on those machines. You should send those apple farmers out here where they use thousands of Mexicans to harvest their apples. Couse these are probably just greedy farmers. I am sure these farmers just are not as enlightened as your TWO neighbors! Want to try again.
Once again. If anyone can explain how our agriculture industry can survive w/o Mexican labor I will vote for Yaaaawn Kerry! Fact is the truth doesn't always fit into some soapboxes!

Hmm, like the Post Office, most of these places can't sell a single monetary instrument that exceeds $750 in denomination.
Curious.
CC refers to the Fed Reserve regulation, Fed Reserve Regs are lettered, you can go to their web site and read them all on line.

who balanced every state budget and pinched pennies like mad
Oh come one, Dean was Gov. during the booming 90s. It was easy to have a balanced budget then. How would he do now?
Sorry, my cat hit 'post' for me. To continue, now that the boom has gone bust, as business cycles do, it's time to cut back, as we've done here in Texas. Now, the liberals here are bitchin' and moanin' and doing what liberals do: claims of racism, starving 'chilrun' etc. But the REAL conservatives here in the Lone Star state have done the right thing and cut the budget.
That's what Dubya and the others I voted for should have done at the Fed level. They didn't have to balance the budget, just cut spending some. Instead they barf out the Farm bill and the Prescription Drug BS (which isn't all bad, I know). Anyway, I don't think Dean would do anything different that Bush, in fact I believe he would spend more. But Bush has not been a fiscal conservative, which IS the most important quality of a true conservative.
