Magnificent. Thanks, marron. The length is fine; it gives ample time for reflection, on past conflicts and most importantly, on what remains to be done up ahead.

Thanks for the ping....
I would have missed a good read.
My only problem with the post, is the thought that the old warrior somehow felt that America had been besmirched by our failure in Vietnam... That somehow "Mom and Apple" pie had betrayed him or were fraudulent propaganda tricks...
America's ideals, and founding principals were not losers in the venture....
What our nightmare in Vietnam did point out, and forever seared in my mind - is that foolish politicians should never again be placed in positions where they make decisions for war or peace... Or, think that a war can be fought without the unwavering objective to win quickly, at any cost...
The media pundits with their own agenda, cowardly and leftist students and educrates, ignorant politicians and incompetent administration executives were the bastards that betrayed our military and our allies.
THEY failed American and they failed to live up to their sworn duty...
They were the traitors, in every sense of the word..
The real America, Mom and Apple pie ---- were always there, still in tact, thank you.
Sometimes you just have to push the assholes out of the way to see the way clearly....

Outstanding post!!
"Marxism continues to thrive in the universities all across the world, which means that it is bound to re-emerge as subsequent generations come to power with no memory of the horror of Marxist rule....
...whatever their disagreements on points of doctrine there may be between the Islamists and the nationalists, they have agreed that the US is their primary enemy...
...The press reports coming out of the war are eerily reminiscent of the press reports of another era. And the ghost of Viet Nam walks among us."
The battle against Marxism is far from over. Our younger generations are being forcefed the Marxist dogma every day in our public schools and universities. The Marxist/socialists on the left can hardly wait to wrest power back from the right. Hillary, Kennedy, Dean, Clark, Gore, et al, and their enablers in the leftist media are so power hungry they're practically drooling blood from their fangs in anticipation. And their desire to pull American power out of the middle east and abandon it to the Marxists and Islamic extremists, while subjugating the US to the UN and other world powers is almost too frightening to contemplate. The left would abandon Liberty for Marxism in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. We must resist the Marxist takeover of America with every ounce of strength and blood we can possibly muster.
God help us if we fail.

The real America, Mom and Apple pie ---- were always there, still intact, thank you. This is such a resoundingly good piece, and you have summarized it. And that line summarizes it all. Thank you.

You wrote this? Excellent. The thing I fear more than anything is that the American people will forget that we are even in a battle. Watching and listening to the democrats has convinced me that there are a large number of people in this country who would gladly turn their backs and walk away. The resulting destruction would first hit Iraq, and then our own country, but they will never acknowledge it.Definitely excellent. I was expecting to see an attribution to a published author at the end since there was none at the head.
You have tied together our history and our potential future as a nation so logically. One point - During these forty years major media treated anti-communists as harmful or crazy. The horrors of Communism and the actions of leaders of Communist nations were always downplayed. Hitler was vilified, but schoolchildren have never really been exposed to the horrors of communist rule.

RR, I agree with your thematic tweeking points. You two might want to get together for a bit of editing, before submitting this excellent essay for serious publication. Very minor and optional tweeking I would add.

And we have still not seen any major movies or television specials on the horrors communism brought to the world.
This moral blindness is really dangerous, considering that the fifth columnists in academia are working day and night to whitewash Marxism and worth trying again.

"....get together for a bit of editing." It isn't appropriate for the old warrior subject of this post, to have HIS personal feelings "edited"...
If that is how he felt or thought, then that is how he felt or thought..
I was just speaking from a different perspective.
We didn't think the effort and sacrifices were a wasted effort.
The mission was noble - the leadership from Congress and the support from civilians was not.
The only regrets I've ever heard any of my partners express, it that we all didn't come home alive or in one piece -- and the fact that we deserted our ethnic clans allies.
UNIVERSAL criticism should be reserved for the feckless politicians and pundits - that mismanaged the war effort and turned the nation against a worthy cause and a suffering military..
Those, who refused to use any means necessary to win the war quickly.
We would rather have buried the politicians, pundits, cowards, draft dodgers, educates and moronic pacifists in worm infested graves, than having buried any of our Marines or so many of those "uneducated savage" hill clansmen that fought along side us, heroically for their "freedom"..
We betrayed them, and left them to the untender mercies of the communists --- the same communists admired, even today, by most mainstream media "readers" and our leftist Hollywood assholes..
America, Mom and apple pie - will survive, for exactly as long as this nation is willing and able to defend the rights we have been blessed to enjoy..
ALL OF THEM..
