Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.
"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.
Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.
A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."
With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.
Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.
This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.
"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

If that is a man wanted by the FBI then you are being dishonest in your characterization of President Bush's proposal. A dishonest person hardly has any standing in a debate on the rule of law, but don't let that fact inhibit your lies in any way.

Here on Long Island the republican party is a JOKE on so many levels but I won't give up. I will do what you suggest, that is to write to others and see what happens.

I can research J'Lo pictures all day. How much fun will it be for you to look for degenerates?Have at it. And, I wasn't looking for degenerates. I was aptly rebutting your specious defense of the indefensible.
I like Bush. I voted for him once and probably will again. Im just not so quick to agree with everything the man does, especially when it comes to granting amnesty to ILLEGAL aliens. And Im not alone
Thought you were leaving?

So was John Malvo, the DC sniper. The common thread among them was/is they are ILLEGAL aliens. There was no dishonesty in my posting his picture.

To those who are doing the write in Tancredo Campaign:
First and foremost, read the rules of what votes are counted in your state. In California, write in candidates are not counted unless they've filed an affidavit with the state stating that they believe people will be voting for them in the election. Tancredo's office has said that they absolutely will not be doing anything like that and do not want people to write his name in.
If you're in California and want to send a message, vote for Howard Kaloogian in the Republican Senate Primary. If you're outside of California, read your election rules - if the vote won't be tallied and won't be reported, all you are doing is creating job security for people who count votes, and wasting your money.

I can predict their response. The Republicans in congress are all pansies that cannot stand up to George B-- no -- Rove.
OK, so for the sake of argument, name one proposal sent to the Congress that they have copitulated on, just one. Since the number will be the same, name one item they have sent to the WH that has been Vetoed. Last night was the first time I've even HEARD the word Veto from this WH. crickets chirpping
Blackbird.

Yes, you were dishonest when you said 'THIS MAN' would be given 'amnesty' (which there even isn't any being proposed).

This is actually great news -- she can run on my presedential ticket in '04. Its just an example of what the 3rd world can produce. They aren't all nasty, filthy, criminals as some would like to paint them.
