Tancredo for president, group says

Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.

"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.

Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.

A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."

With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.

Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.

This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.

"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

Seems they don't have the cajones to respond to the questions of a lifelong conservative Republican who voted for GWB in 2000.

Same here! So we are even more offended.

Some things are indefensible, and pandering to Latinos as both GWB and gray davis have done makes that list<P. And pandering to the self appointed "true conservatives" would lose my vote. You folks need to go ahead and form your next "powerful 3rd party".

Stop whining. You are speaking out loud and clear. You just have a lot of others speaking back at you just as loud.

Maybe the WH nor Ridge 'have' to listen to us or read our email.

They're listening...they just don't have an answer.

I attended the Homeland Security Townhall Meeting in San Diego last week. Did you see it...it was on C-SPAN. Secretary Tom Ridge was the guest speaker. All participants were allowed to write a question down and submit it. The questions were then hand-picked and only then were they asked of Ridge. I wanted to ask him what, if anything, is being done to protect our borders from infiltration from the south. Not only did I not get to ask my question, but no one even touched the subject. I find it impossible to believe an issue that important to the people of San Diego didn't come up. In fact, I know it did because I wrote it down.

Ridge, along with the rest of the Bush Administration doesn't want to touch it because they know they've failed along those lines. Can't upset the Latino population with talk about protecting our borders, ya know.

...the point is to send Bush a message.

Sending them a message leads to teaching them a lesson and that's when the trouble begins and the bad guys win. You taught his father a lesson.....and we all lost. Thanks.

That is all you have been doing for 2 weeks. You have not been denied your soapbox, the only thing you have been denied is a silent audience. Toughen up.

Just concerned about the Southern border, eh?

No. But I do consider it a larger priority since I live approximately 15 miles from it and see what comes through it every day.

You have already lost.

Only in your small mind. If that's too deep for you consider the very real fact that you, and everyone who thinks like you are in the minority. The majority of Americans don't want amnesty for these lawbreakers.
