Kerry to Bush: 'We're coming, you're going'
12:12 AM CST on Tuesday, January 20, 2004
From Wire Reports
DES MOINES, Iowa John Kerry's voice was so hoarse when he woke at 4:45 a.m. Monday that he sent stand-ins to three get-out-the-vote rallies.
But by late afternoon he hopped back on his campaign bus, the Real Deal Express, saying he wanted to see undecided Iowa caucusgoers one last time to "fight for every vote."
Those four words became the Massachusetts senator's political vow in the final weeks before the nation's first presidential caucuses which Mr. Kerry won easily over his Democratic rivals. At a jubilant victory party, he took aim at the Bush administration and special interests.
"We're coming, you're going, and don't let the door hit you on the way out," he said.
Just two months ago, his presidential bid was in turmoil. He fired his campaign manager but denied it was a sign of distress.
Over the course of a few weeks, his style dramatically changed from appearing aloof and lecturing toward an attitude of displaying a willingness to listen.
In speeches, at town hall meetings and even on the elevator, he asked voters to "test him," "to look into his soul," and to "ask as many questions as it takes" to turn them into committed Kerry backers.
Monday night, as he greeted voters entering Urbandale High School, he stuck to his polite, direct appeals for support.
"I need your help tonight," he told an elderly woman in a knit sweater.
His campaign overhall coincided with growing concerns among some caucusgoers over Howard Dean.
He told a young man wearing a "Dean for America" T-shirt, "I guess I can't get your" vote.
"Well, once you get there, I'll support you over Bush," the man replied.
Sen. Edward Kennedy, who campaigned for Mr. Kerry, called his win "an extraordinary upset" that using favorite Kerry line "marks the beginning of the end of the Bush presidency."
"We love Iowa," he said. "Iowa voters found John had the leadership quality, the strength, the trustworthiness, the steeliness, to address the concerns of ordinary, average people, and to offer a vision for the country."

Clark was also a combat veteran of the Vietnam war and getting medals in a war, even if you reject them later still looks better then what Cheney said when asked why he did not go to the "Nam...he was too busy.IIRC, Cheney was out of the draftable pool BEFORE Vietnam really heated up.

70% of voters in Iowa were against the war and over half voted for candidates that voted for the war.

So much for any sense of loyalty among Dem constituents, eh?
These "Anyone but Bush" people really enjoy showing the world that they're completely brainless and devoid of logical or critical thinking, don't they?

Mrs. Heinz Kerry was born in Mozambique. Her father was a Portuguese MD and she was schooled in South Africa.
Mrs Heinz Kerry was the wife of our GOP Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Kerry is outspoken. Mrs. Kerry will be Howard Deans replacement for off handed remarks.
The Kerry's own several homes. They are the peoples candidate? Beacon Hill in Boston, Martha's Vineyard, Washington DC and Pennsylvania. They use more energy per day than any 30 Democrat families. Do they use private aircraft to fly into Martha's Vineyard? Yes they do. They are elitists pretending to be for the common man while holding their noses when they move through the crowds.
They are extremely wealthy fakes.

Yes, it's hard for me to believe that the Democrats would nominate another Massachusetts liberal as their candidate. They would be totally writing off the Southern vote, which they can't afford to do.
Even with Graham on the ticket, I don't think Florida would be a sure thing.
Edwards, on the other hand, could be a whole 'nother story.

"Show me a president who has won re-election in the last 100 years who wouldn't have if he had a better opponent."
Ambrose, I agree with your point, but I can name one such example- William Jefferson Blythe Clinton. And there is the other side of the equation, which is a president who lost re-election who wouldn't have if he had a worse opponent.
In 1992, Bush ran horribly and Clinton ran brilliantly. It was a referendum on the previous four years, which were good years actually but the skilled challenger managed to spin that they were awful years.
Then in 1996, a wounded and vulnerable candidate was able to beat a candidate who saved his best face for Visa commercials after the election was over.
But I do agree with your point because I don't see a single Democrat running capable of distorting voters' reality to the point where the referendum on Bush is based on a false perception of reality. It will be about the Bush record, and mostly about the real Bush record. What the Democrats do from this point on is not really going to change things. What will change things is how the economy goes, how Iraq goes, and if Bush avoids scandals.

What an F'n joke!
F'n Kerry is talking about special interests and right in front of him are placards proclaiming: "Stand Up For Choice".
I'll take any special interest group that would court Bush over Planned Parenthood, PETA, Sierra Club, ELF, Greenpeace, NAACP, labor unions, NEA and all the other nut case special interests that ARE the DemocRATs.

Dean is the best candidate for the Republicans! Kerry evidenlty thinks the more he can look like Abe Lincoln the better his chances are.

All Bush has to do to lose this election is to keep supporting the invasion of America by the Mexicans who have ruined their own country and want to start on ours. A lot of my friends, staunch Republicans, state that they'll forego their vote rather than support Bush if he maintains his stand on this issue.

My instincts tell me the Dems, if the Dems field Kerry/Clark combination they will try and negate Bush foreign policy based on confronting Bush and Cheney on their lack of military record and in contrast to their (Kerry/Clark that is) military achievements.Bush and Cheney fought two successful wars: Afghanistan and Iraq.
Clark won't be the VP nominee; he's too arrogant to take the second spot.

I was just reading through our emails. One was from Amazon. Today, a day after the Kerry win in Iowa, we receive an advertisement from AMAZON.com for John Kerry's book, Tour of Duty, and I gotta wonder about the timing. Talk about an advertising strategery. Usually, when Amazon sends one of these solicitations, they list several books. Today, the only one listed is Kerry's book. Hmmmmm.

"Lieberman was essentially a Florida native son for all intents and purposes, given the demographics in Palm Beach. Florida is lost to the Rats for sure, unless they put a Floridian on the ticket." Well, Palm Beach County is lost to the Rats, for sure. Luckily there are a few other counties as well.
