It takes a big commitment for a judge to accept a recess appointment since he has to give up everything for maybe only 1 year.

Ture but remember Judge Pickering is almost 67 yrs old, has been a District Judge for some 10 years or more and has 18 grandchildren. He may be looking forward to retirement if he isn't confirmed or reappointed....

Hundreds of Bush-haters protesting him laying a wreath on MLK grave.

I know. How classless.

Bush has a good nose for politics and he looking forward to the next congress.

You see, if W would have appointed him during a previous recess, at the end of the appointment, this same congress would still be in session.

One year from today this congress is history so they cannot undo Pickering's appointment. And W knows he will be better able to work with the next congress.

Until the end of this Presidential term. Then he can be recess appointed again, according to what Judge Napolitano told Shep Smith.

**I don't believe he gets paid for serving.**

In covering it, Fox said that he stepped up to a higher salary also.

Obviously, the unappeasables always find a reason to be perpetually angry.

Whoa! You nailed that sucker to the wall!

Interesting how the 'unappeasables' find a way to be hostile and cynical, even when commenting on this GREAT event! (And this one even blamed it on Karl Rove! Do you suppose he works for Time Magazine??)

I don't envy them, though. They must lead miserable lives.......

**Exactly. This has Rove's finger prints all over it.**

Purportedly someone said, to make the conservatives happy! Don't know if I agree with that.

It's plausible to me that Richard Cheney, at age 63 with his remarkable career and accomplishments, may not wish to serve another stint as V.P. It's a hectic slot post 9/11, being shuttled back and forth to secure locations etc. Wouldn't it be something if in his stead, President Bush announced the selection of Condi Rice as his running mate and the first female, African American Vice President on Monday ... Martin Luther King holiday?

Just throwing stuff out there! ;^)

I don't agree either, I'd look at it as Rove wanting to piss the far left off so badly that they come out in DROVES to support the person that is the furthest away from what Bush stands for (DEAN) not realizing that they are supporting the man that has absolutley no chance off beating him in November.

THE MAN IS BRILLIANT!!!!!

Exactly. This has Rove's finger prints all over it.

I wasn't surprised that Bush was treated so disgracefully at the King memorial service. If Rove keeps it up Bush will soon be treated to equally disgraceful behavior at conservative events.

Too bad. I think Bush is basically a good man but when Rove is finished he'll be viewed by historians as just another political hack.

I agree with you on this one. Bush has relied too heavily on Rove. This was the same guy who thought GW was going to win '00 in a landslide. He did not even know the the Democrat vote fraud machine would be working overtime. I wish Bush would go with his gut, seek wisdom from God more than seek wisdom from Rove. I think Rove has hindered Bush instead of helped him.

Most of the people who protested at the King Service were white, bought and paid for by A.N.S.W.E.R. They sounded like programmed wind-up dolls and were basically as rude and vulgar as they could possibly be. So if he was *pandering*, at least HE was respectful and it ain't a bad thing as long as he didn't promise reparations.

As for the recess appointment, it couldn't have come at a better time. Someone asked about Estrada. He asked for his name to be withdrawn...but we can hope.

I think you underestimate the President, and overestimate the power of Rove.

President Bush has proven over and over again, that he is a true leader. No one dependent on another for every move could have done that.
