I'd like to see Bush renominate Estrada this summer or fall. Or maybe renominate Estrada in NYC at the convention.

I wish just once you could get something right. You have already been corrected on this. Those on recess appointments are not working for free.

Are you sayinmg that this appointment is pandering? Yes, as are others. It has been rather non stop political posturing from the executive for the last two weeks.
Rove is on the march.

"President "side-stepping" Congress, appoints Charles Pickering, of Mississippi to the Federal Bench! WOW ! This is good!!!
Great news for a Friday afternoon.
Pickering is a good, decent man smeared by the Democrats in the Senate and the complicit media.
I hope that the new US Senate in 2005 will have enough votes to allow Pickering to have a vote in the full Senate.

Yeah this is the way to do it.
Instead of waiting for Congress to approve people, just put them in and let them serve pending Congress disapproving them.
We have been doing it backwards.

If President Bush makes a principled, unpopular move, he is accused of betraying his conservative base. (See his proposal in immigration.)
If President Bush makes a principled, popular move, he is accused of pandering to his conservative base. (See recess appointment of Pickering.)
Obviously, the unappeasables always find a reason to be perpetually angry.

I think Estrada is no longer in the mix. He wanted to move on and had to make a decision regarding his role in the Law firm. He was being held back on cases due to the pending vote which never was coming... thus he asked to be removed from consideration.... I think he would still have that position, imo.

Ends up being a 1 year appointmentAnd if Bush has a "friendlier" congress next session, he can get a regular appointment. It takes a big commitment for a judge to accept a recess appointment since he has to give up everything for maybe only 1 year.
Bush has a good nose for politics and he looking forward to the next congress.
