WASHINGTON (AdAge.com) -- Viacom's CBS today rejected a request from liberal group MoveOn to air a 30-second anti-President Bush ad during the Super Bowl, saying the spot violated the network's policy against running issue advocacy advertising.
Network policy A CBS spokesman said the decision against broadcasting the spot had nothing to do with either the Super Bowl or the ad's specific issue but was because the network has had a long-term policy not to air issue ads anywhere on the network.
A MoveOn spokesperson said the group hopes to appeal the decision within CBS.
Produced as a personal project by Charlie Fisher, creative director of the Copenhagen, Denmark, office of Publicis Groupe ad agency Leo Burnett, the spot is critical of the Bush administration's fiscal policies.
Anti-Bush contest MoveOn is airing a 60-second version the commercial, which was selected through a contest calling for anti-Bush ads, in advance of President Bush's State of the Union address Jan. 20. The group has purchased $300,000 worth of air time on Time Warner's CNN that starts Jan. 17 and runs through Jan. 21.

Guess I'll just say that this loser can stay in Denmark then. Yup. If it's socialism he's looking for (and as a MoveOn supporter, I'm assuming that's his goal) he's surrounded by it over there. Now, if we could just get Babs, Baldwin, and the rest to join him...

Don't connect to the tower itself. Pull up the guywires and the tower falls in the opposite direction. Much safer

Only "fair and balanced" political commercials can be aired now? Is this because of CFR? I mean I seem to recall that there is a law that states issue ads can not be denied air time near election time but I do not recal what the specifics are.
Not defending the ad per say just musing outloud.

Making Michael a freaking genius when compared to all the "intellectuals" in Hollywood who haven't figured out we buy movie tickets DVD's CD's Books etc etc.... <<
But haven't you heard? The ONLY people who support Bush are evil billionaires running corporations that kill babies and destroy the enviroment (obviously guys like Ted Turner and George Soros don't count)
Conservatives in middle American don't exist. When liberals see sales of their movies, music, books, etc., plummeting, it's evil consevative voodoo powers, in conjection with "right wing media censorship"

They're already showing the cowboy boot commercial here in Tampa Bay. Just a cowboy boot with a W on it, pulling the rug out from under seniors. It's really bad and I thought that the House & Senate & the President came up with the Medicare package, NOT just the POTUS. So, their ugly commercial distorts in addition to being in poor taste.

Hey Sink!!! You missed!!! My Panthers are going to ground up some New England tail. If both teams play like they did Sunday, New England's going to be in for their worst Super Bowl outing they've ever had, and Carolina will waltz away with their first Championship!!! (Not that I expect EITHER team to play like they did Sunday. Sheesh. NE kept TRYING to give the game away to Indy. And the Panthers, though fully mawling the Eagles, should have put more points on the board.)

I think that CBS is still licking their embarrassing wounds from the Reagan miniseries fiasco. I think that they'd let it run otherwise.
