FReepers, now is the time to come to the aid of your country.
America means freedoms ....those guaranteed by our Bill of Rights, and our Constitution......and the rule of law.
But being an American means something more, something significant to each and every one of us.
At this time in American history when there are serious challenges facing our Nation, let us gather together here on this forum, and with one voice, as one people united, outline the things most important to us about being an American.
Post below the freedoms unique to our country, the freedoms and liberties under constant assault, that you feel we are in danger of losing.
Post a list of the things you think are most sacred to America and to Americans that must be preserved.

to preserve the understanding that there is no substitute for the dynamic force unleashed by maintaining the individual responsibility of each citizen for his own position in life; and for understanding those values that we have in common, while respecting those values that different American societies have developed, that differ one from another; and according each State the right to differ profoundly within that common understanding of heritage and responsiblity;
for understanding that there is no more important "human right," than the right to retain the fruits of your own labor and achievement--your property;--and for preserving that understanding so clearly stated by President Washington, that "honesty is always the best policy."
These are some of the basic concepts, which define America to me.

The way the law is structured, I think it's safer to get caught in possession of an ounce than to get caught trying to grow a gram. Growing is considered production. For that you get serious time in the pokey, and that's a lifestyle I want no part of. On top of that, a cactus is pretty much the only plant that doesn't die under my care. No green thumb.
No, the only smart thing for herbal Americans (I heard Toby Kieth use that term on TV last night) to do is to mitigate the risk of incarceration by keeping possession amounts within misdimeanor parameters and to not grow any at all. The best thing would be to change the damn laws and let me enjoy my own tastes, but that's not happening. So, the Yankee dollars will go wherever.
Why am I proud? Because no matter who asked for our help, no matter where in this Godforsaken world, the United States of America has always stepped forward to offer its men/women up for sacrifice to defend those peoples God given right to freedom!
Thats why I am so God damned proud to be an American!
As for those same peoples who now critize the United States, well, I am too civil to express my real feelings.........
The thread is about what America means to me! Quality of life and freedom is in the eye of the beholder! Quality of life has increased exponentially but actual freedoms seem to now be under assault by your government. Still, over all, this is the best damn place on the planet! lets start working on our politicians to turn them to our way of thinking....

My Dad was career military, enlisted. So I'm an old Air Force Brat.I remember living overseas my Senior Year in High School. When I got back, I knew how soldiers felt when you see them getting back to the U.S. and they kiss the ground.
That was in 1972, when all the hippies were protesting the Vietnam War and all that cr** was going on.
I came back to the States to attend college at UT-Arlington. I bought me a 1965 Ford Mustang, got me a part time job for the summer and then started class a couple of months later.
By the time I moved on campus that Fall, I made sure I had a bumper sticker on my Mustang with THIS message !:
If that pic dies, someone let me know and I'll fix it.
I think it'll be ok, we'll see ...
