it is known to have killed at least one an Iraqi who seized an American soldier's weapon.

Not a wise career move....

Other folding knives are more conventional in shape. Many Marines favored Strider knives, designed and manufactured by retired combat veterans. The Strider knives were noted for their durability and every member of the new Marine commando unit (Special Operations unit Detachment One) received a specially designed Strider knife called the SMF.

What happened to Kaybars?

Battle blades are a neccessary part of a Soldier's kit. Realistic training is imperative.

Brought my brother-in law a krambit for Christmas with training videos. Now I've decided I need one too. Emerson is the place to be for these. However I found out about these knives on the highroad.org and there is other outlets for the Emerson knives for about 75.00 less. The videos are impressive----however I was saddened really to see the guy has a wedding ring on!!!!!!LOL

Maybe but our Rangers are also buying up "Tomahawks." Yes, I said "Tomahawks," and for all of the same reasons that woodsmen and frontiersman had them to start with.

"Folding combat knives are replacing bayonets ..."

Sigh...

Bayonets are not general purpose cutting tools. In fact the Geneva Convention forbids 'sharpened edges' on bayonets. So it is impossible to use a 'legal' bayonet for cutting anything, it is purely a 'stabbing' weapon (don't ask me why, I can't figure out the logic of most of the Geneva Convention rules).

I used to carry a Gerber lock blade. It was really nice. Serrated edge. Rubberized handle. Was really easy to flick the blade out. Felt good in the hand. Having said that. I really liked the newer Army bayonet. A right pig sticker it is. Big blood groove. Got that wire cutter built into it. You can throw it underhand without it flipping.

And I bet Many old Marines did not. And at least one young Marine gave me the swell opportunity of having the very good fortune of *lending* him my copy of one of these:

It's real easy to spot his/mine/ours. It's the one with the handle spraypainted OD Marine Green to cover the previous red.

I know small knives can be deadly but I have always liked the larger ones.

When I was a kid, the local library had a huge collection of armor from Scotland. The former ambassador to Scotland from the U.S. (yes they really did have an ambassdor to Scotland) was from there and had collected them.

I was always impressed with just how large those swords were. I mean they were so big that I don't see how they handled them.
