The time is late. Those who once has trouble reading the hour on their watches have no trouble seeing by the glare of the fire at Waco. Few of us realized at the time that the Constitution was burning right along with the Davidians. Now we know better.

Overblown, my friend.

BTW, which states just passed and conceal and carry laws?

Agreed. Of course, when people say that our founding fathers envisioned hunting rifles and the need to gather food, rather than modern guns, my point is that the founding fathers were not scared of wild turkeys ... they were scared of foreign or domestic armies; therefore, if we really want to be true to the intentions of the founding fathers, the constitution protects our right to keep and bear military weapons, not hunting rifles. Every free man should own an M-16 or two.

Not overblown.

IMO sublimely understated. Those people at Waco were murdered plain and simple.

I believe the semi-automatics are just as effective. That's why we have mini-14's, FAL's, etc. in our household.

Sovereign nations have nukes. The nukes make them sovereign. Sovereign citizens have guns. The guns make them sovereign.

Yeah, a semi-automatic is less of a spendthrift on ammo, and getting ammo might be an issue.

FYI...old, and a little long...but a good read.

First, our own military is not likely to take on their own citizenry, unless they are as subverted and blind as the BATF anf FBI were at Waco (which unfortunately does show it can happen.) Second, those of us who are armed and have some training would be very tough to take down on our home turf. We know the land (neighborhoods, city, surrounding area) and even with handguns would pick off our share of the "invaders."

Even at my age I can hit out to a reasonable distance with a handgun from a rest. I do even better with a rifle. The opponents of freedom don't want to take me (and my many gun-toting friends) on in a house-to-house fight on my turf. As Mel Gibson said in the "Patriot" - "aim small, miss small." There would be many one-shot kills.

Go and read what the Sarah Brady types are saying.
If that doesn't scare you, then you won't understand the basics of this article and you rights anyway.

Always remember if one is fighting in a guerilla tyoe action your enemy is a primary source of supply. But you know I agree on semi-auto fire as generally being more effective on an enemy. Yes thgere is a place for full auto fire but semi auto gets the job actually done.

During that discussion, one poster indicated that since handguns were not a military weapon, the local community or state should have every right to vote a law banning them, in essence for public safety.

Uhhh... these are military weapons.

That's why I'm a big believer in having guns in the primary calibers, such a 9mm, .45, .223, .308, and 12 guage. .30-06 isn't bad either.

I like other calibers as well, but you should have (ideally) a gun for every one of the main caliber weapons.

A good list, but let me remind you of the humble .22 LR.

Humble, but effective if properly used.

Agreed on all points. The best physical deterrnet is arms in the hands of citizens who are willing to use them. 80+ million gun onwers is an effective deterrrent. That physical deterrent becomes ineffective without the moral deterrent where the gunowners themselves retain the basic moral foundation our founders established the nation on.

And the enemies of our rights and way of life know it and are working hard on both issues.

Unfortunately, as the cases you cited show, and as the case there in Illinois shows, they are also gather adherants.
