FYI...old, and a little long...but a good read.

First, our own military is not likely to take on their own citizenry, unless they are as subverted and blind as the BATF anf FBI were at Waco (which unfortunately does show it can happen.) Second, those of us who are armed and have some training would be very tough to take down on our home turf. We know the land (neighborhoods, city, surrounding area) and even with handguns would pick off our share of the "invaders."

Even at my age I can hit out to a reasonable distance with a handgun from a rest. I do even better with a rifle. The opponents of freedom don't want to take me (and my many gun-toting friends) on in a house-to-house fight on my turf. As Mel Gibson said in the "Patriot" - "aim small, miss small." There would be many one-shot kills.

Agreed on all points. The best physical deterrnet is arms in the hands of citizens who are willing to use them. 80+ million gun onwers is an effective deterrrent. That physical deterrent becomes ineffective without the moral deterrent where the gunowners themselves retain the basic moral foundation our founders established the nation on.

And the enemies of our rights and way of life know it and are working hard on both issues.

Unfortunately, as the cases you cited show, and as the case there in Illinois shows, they are also gather adherants.

Do not forget that it was Geeral Clark who approved the use of his tanks at Waco and that is when his star began its meteoric rise.

You are absolutely correct. And many of us are former military who spend quality time at the range. With modern technological advances in optics and reloading equipment and components coupled with the availability of some very fine civilian sniper courses, one can shoot some pretty tight groups at 1000 yards with a .308 or 1500 yards with a .300 winmag.

First, our own military is not likely to take on their own citizenry...

True generally, but remember the 20-25% of Seal Team Six who answered "yes" when asked if they would fire on US citizens who resisted gun confiscation.

Another approach might be to scatter our troops around the world and use foreign troops here. Wouldn't it be ironic if such troops included Afghanis or Iraqis or Albanians or Serbs? I'm sure they would be sensitive to our culture and way of doing things.

Our own military would do as ordered. Witness the Delta Force's operations at Waco. The FBI repeatedly said, "We never fired a shot." on the Davidians firery last day. They did not say, "No shots were fired." We already know the FBI & BATF agents will do whatever they are told to do, to whomever they are told to do it to, whenever they are told to do it. They are agents of the government, by the government, for the government. No one stepped up to try and stop the use of tanks against the Davidian women & children. No One.

What? Gassing the children so their mommy & daddy will obey you? Everyone of you involved in that can go to hell.

Citizens doing anything about anything? Won't happen.

Here's the proof. 25,000 babies were shredded to death by the abortion industry last week. 25,000 babies are being shredded to death by the abortion industry this week. 25,000 babies will be shredded to death by the abortion industry next week.

Do you see anyone rising up to interfere with this slaughter of human babies in the U.S.?

The problem is having the will to resist tyranny. By and large the people of this country still trust their government no matter how much it lies to them and tries to control them. The more draconian our laws become and the more abusive our police are the closer we are to the time when a percentage of the people say "ENOUGH". I pray that this doesn't happen but I do not see us getting back the freedoms we have lost. We are constantly beset with politicians and bureaucrats both foriegn and domestic who want to enslave us through laws and treaties which in my opinion are proposed to enslave us.

Yup. I'm in my 50s, a Vietnam vet (US Air Force, 1970-1974), and I'm a pretty good shot with a rifle AND a handgun. A hand gun and a shotgun are for when things get real close and personal; ideally, 150-300 yard shots with a rifle is the best way to go.
