The following letter was received by the heroic Congressman, Tom Tancredo, and posted on his site as part of 'Tom's Mailbag'...
My story.
I live in a world where I do not count. I am White. I am poor. I don't have coalitions rallying for what I feel is important. I don't have news reporters writing about "poor me". But, I have views. I vote. I pay taxes. And, I know there are millions of people in America just like me.
I live next to a shelter built by politicians who are afraid to have an opinion about closing the border. Daily, 1,500 illegal Mexicans visit that shelter. It was supposed to keep these "poor" people from urinating and defecating on the streets. It didn't. If I defecated on the street, I would get fined.
My home and vehicles have been broken into 22 times in 5 years. I stopped calling the police each time now, because they don't come anyway. Instead, we bought a gun. Scared off the last illegal trying to steal our truck. He knew enough English to say, "Sorry", as we pointed it at him. 3 months later, we still have a towel over the smashed driver's side window. Last week, I was ordered to pay a $85.00 fine for a false alarm. Police showed up for THAT hearing. The police couldn't find any criminal at my home when my home alarm sounded. I am curious how long police think bad guys "hang around" after an alarm has been triggered.
When I was rear ended in my car, the policeman said I would have to wait while he called for back -up. My baby was screaming. The police had no film in the camera. The back- up police had no fingerprinting ink, or film. The illegal had an ID, but the police said there was nothing that could be done. The illegal would just get another fake ID and would never show for court. He didn't have insurance. The illegal who hit me said, "Sorry", as he was walking away. He was free to go. I was free to pay the deductible on my car, and the chiropractor bills for my children and myself. If I drove without insurance and hurt someone or their possessions, I would be forced to pay for the damages.
My husband works 6 days a week as a framing contractor. He pays FICA, Social Security, State taxes, Federal taxes, General liability insurance, Workman's comp insurance, and probably others that I don't remember. His Workman's Comp. just skyrocketed from $5,000 per year, to $28,000 per year. Now I ask you... WHERE are we to come up with an extra $23,000? We had NO CLAIMS! Should I take it from my food budget? We often go weeks without meat! Should it come from our clothing budget? We buy our clothes at thrift sales and Savers. How about our entertainment account? Does seeing a movie every month qualify?
My home insurance costs me $100.00 more yearly because I live on a border state. How long until Kansas becomes a border state?
I have had no medical insurance for years and years. I can't afford it. At 33, I got cancer. My doctor told me to go to ACCHS. I don't remember how to spell the state's medical system, since they declined me. My husband 's company had no profit in 6 months, due to theft, and lack of laws at the time to force general contractor's to pay . Without studying my receipts, I was declined. Interesting that the hundreds of illegal Mexicans standing in line, were being given food stamps, and medical care. They did not have social security numbers, and did not speak English. If you don't believe me, look at the application DES uses yourself, spend 5 minutes at DES and remind yourself why you pay taxes. You won't leave smiling.
Taxes. We fell behind 1 year. I contacted IRS and told them we want to make arrangements to pay. We now show the IRS EVERY thing we buy. From tampons to chewing gum-they see the receipt. For the next year, we will be scrutinized. For the next 5 years we will be audited. Maybe I should never have "done the right thing" and told them. Maybe I should change my name to Garcia.
My son cries nightly because his legs and arms hurt. He has cried for almost 7 years. My husband often walks on one leg because his back and leg pain is almost unbearable. Monthly, I have mini strokes. During those times, I lose the ability to speak well, and have seizures until I lose consciousness . We don't really know what is wrong with any of us. We may never know. WE can't afford a doctor. God forbid we need emergency services. 30% of the time, hospitals are on divert status, because there is no room. The illegals take their kids to ERs for colds and sore throats. I would only go if I lost a limb, or my heart gave out.
2 years ago, I announced to my family there would be no turkey for Thanksgiving. We would eat pasta and be thankful we were a family. My Catholic friend made arrangements for me to get a food box from her church. I went, reluctantly. I drove up in my broken old van, and saw a lot full of new (stickers still attached), suburbans. My van was the worst vehicle there, and it hit me that I really was poor! I stood in line for 20 minutes amazed at the number of Mexicans taking box after box of food. When it was my turn, I had to show ID. I was told to leave. There wasn't enough food for me to take a box. I looked around- there were boxes of food everywhere! For a minute I forgot I was White, and in their eyes, not deserving.
At church, our pastor reminds us to stay hopeful. I struggle to make sense of a system that has taken from me, and given to those who have more than I do.
Who will be my voice? Where is my coalition? I thought it was the leaders of America. I was wrong. They have sold out me and millions like me out. What's worse...I don't know why.

I understand your concerns, but it's probably authentic. If you're white and show up at county, you are scrutinized very carefully, because we all know there are no poor white people.
It's impossible to verify the authenticity of this letter without a starting place.
Damn. It figures, though.
If you need to place blame on someone for the illegal alien mess, you need look no further than Ted Kennedy, whose team of left-wing wonks wrote the Immigration Reform Act of 1965. (He of course being far too drunk to write anything himself.)

All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had
barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America . Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have
recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our
own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language !
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture !
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things
where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining,
and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom...
THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
That's true. I'm just going on personal experience. White people tend to get a chilly reception when trying to access these programs. I was on food stamps briefly in '99. I worked 40 hrs a week for minumum wage. My ex and I were not divorced at the time and he refused to pay anything towards taking care of the kids. Until he started paying child support, I relied on food stamps for several months. I'm actually still qualified, but I hate the paperwork and the nasty attitudes one has to put up with to get them.
Thier plan is to import cheap labor from Mexico to drive now wages in the trades and export tech jobs to drive down wages in middle class jobs. It is a very good plan and it's working.
Interestingly enough we were sued by an "immigrant" when my husband rearended him going about 5 miles an hour at "rush hour"
I've seen guys driving old clunkers and making quick stops in heavy traffic. Must be a major source of income for this crowd.
Even better, the school district that my kids are in deliberately moved Spring Break (formerly know as Easter vacation) a week after Easter. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

It is painfully real that the will of "We The People" is being looked aside; our present administration has left us at a fork in the road. To successfully pass throught these uncertain times we find ourselves in between a rock and a hard place. The Republican Party has devolved and morphed into a Socialist Party of the Elites. Patriachal Families consider this their "RIGHT" to go against the voting public and plod along their preferred route to some sort of utopia that they plan to finance on the backs of TAXPAYERS! It has now come to this... Since we are at a fork in the road it is now time for us to depart on a separate path to a more perfect union of like minded Patriotic Citizen Warriors.
We must find a New Party Label that better defines what "Conservative" means and new Patriots who will wear this label to the benefit of all this Country's Citizens! I would support "The Constitution Party" or "The Conservative Party" or any other valid party name that clearly identifys the true "Will Of The People". I have used the revolutionary phrase "No Taxation Without Representation" lately and because I personally feel I am not properly represented I join in an increasing majority of Citizen Warriors who will write in my vote! I am once again calling for a National Referendum to identify and unify a platform of valid candidates "Conservative Voters" can rally and support as write in Candidates. There are many who support this measure and it is sorely needed for this Country to survive. The answer to this question gives you all the proof you need to establish the need to increase your choices as a Patriotic Voter. If you are like most people myself included; your vote in previous elections went to someone who was considered the lesser of two evils. You did not cast a vote for someone who you were totally on fire for so be true at least to yourself! If political Power truly resides with the people then we are guilty of abusing it by not holding those we elect accountable for their Traitorous Acts! There is no way to side step the issues facing us in the future. We either decide to continue the same path of Lies & Deception that gives us bad Government and increased Defecit Spending or we take a different path at the fork in the road to a better life for all of us!
We have the time availiable to us right now to select and agree upon a different course of action that is Responsive and accountable to "We The People". It appears that we are going to be forced into a New and Better for all situation that will send a strong message to the Congress and all Politicians to shape up to the people's demands or prepare to be Impeached! The first step to Cleaning House & Senate is my National Referendum to locate and identify a new breed of Patriot Warrior that will enjoy the Mandate of "WE THE PEOPLE". Socialism is a Disease of opportunity that is inbred into society! The cancerous outgrowth of it is lazy virrulent liberalism, that lies & apologizes for all its failures and engenders easy acceptance of its deadly agenda.
This current administration is working on the assumption that the vast right wing of political persuasion will continue to bathe itself in the misguided notion that there is no difference between (conservative)republicism as is now represented versus True Accountable Conservatism that I propose through our New Patriotic Warrior Conversion Party that works for the benefit of all Americans, instead of to the exclusion! Support a "National Referendum" in the time remaining before election and we will send a SHOCKING MESSAGE to the motley crew in Washington D.C. and then finally with Almighty Jehovah God's Blessing you will have someone to "VOTE FOR"! This is the change the Country needs!

I think Puerto Rico should be given their independence -- they've earned it.
In our area violent home invasions gangs (consisting of both illegal and legal immigrants) are active. A relative was hurt by a drunken illegal. Foreigns presently are forming formidable criminal enterprises.
My taxes are high enough, and I resent that any part of them going to lowlife like them.
People I know have lost out on jobs to non-citizens.
Already too many people are in this country and consequently. traffic jams, etc. are getting worse. The quality of life is declining.
It is morally offensive to have special perks provided to illegal aliens. They are criminals. Period.
In the long run illegal aliens will do far more damage to this country than scores of Saddam Husseins.
To call anyone opposed to illegal aliens as a racist is nonsense. I am just as opposed to the Russian Mafia as to the those from Ethiopia. It is racist, however, to favor the illegals from just Mexico over those from other nations.
