CLEVELAND (AP) - A woman said through tears Thursday that she lied about losing the winning ticket for a $162 million lottery prize awarded to another woman.
Elecia Battle, 40, of Cleveland, is dropping her lawsuit to block payment of the Mega Millions jackpot to the certified winner, said her lawyer Sheldon Starke.

$1.00 a week out of my pop money. But when I go into the Quicki-Mart near where I work, I see people supported by my taxes dropping $50 a day, with "boxed" and "reversed" and things I didn't know our state lottery did. "Three of the 3 number, two of the 5-number. (That's the AM drawing, right?) Give me a 4-number for tonight, boxed, and five of those 2$ scratch-offs." You are right. A tax on those who are bad at math.

When playing the lottery, a person is shelling out $1 for the privilege to daydream and hope for a whole day. It is cheap entertainment provided that it's only a dollar every now and then.

``I'm not a bad person, I'm really not,'''
Uh, yes you are. You tried to cheat another person out of what was theirs to satisfy your own greed. Denial doesn't change that. Shame on you, you are a bad person. You CAN change that if you want, but the first step is admitting it.
``Everyone has a past.''
And for most people it doesn't include anything like this.

$100 once. So you're still in the hole at least $160 for that year you won the $100. How about the other years you've played and lost?
Im 26.
Which means that if you continue to play the lottery at the same pace for the next 26 years, you will be have lost approximately $6,500. Money that could have earned interest in your bank account and would be worth far higher.
Good thinking.
I think thats a pretty good history.
How old were you when you quit school?
Its better than tobaccy
No, not really.
There's little difference between throwing money away that could make your life and the lives of your children happier and taking a substance that takes your life from you.

``I wanted to win,'' Battle said. ``The numbers were so overwhelming. I did buy a ticket and I lost. I wanted to win so bad for my kids and my family. I apologize.'' Both her and her lawyer should be liable for all damages ensuing from this extortion attempt.
You could argue that only she should be criminally liable but I like the idea of the attorney being punished as well.

Lottery = a tax on the poor greedy but lazy. Im not greedy or lazy... My plans with the winnings are hardly greedy either.

From what I'm reading here, lotteries are the end of civilization as we know it.
We must protect the ignorant from themselves!
I make good money selling lottery games (including Keno) in my bar. I don't play 'em, but I sure am glad a lot of other people do! Most of the players are hardworking folks who like to dream about winning a truckload of money.
It's entertainment, pure and simple.

Sadly, I have seen a elderly woman plop down $100 in mixed bills for 100 $1 scratch off tickets. In fact I have seen her do this twice at the convenience store near my office. Other people in my office have seen here multiple times as well. She then plays all of the tickets sitting outside the store, barely even reading what she scratched (I assume she has the game rules so memorized she can tell if she won).
She is an addict, blowing whatever savings she has on these games. Sad.

Time for Rev. Jesse to show up and demand $$$ for this poor woman from the real winner. After all, if the winner had come forward earlier, this poor lady wouldn't have been tempted to do such a thing. Mental anguish!

Lottery = a tax on the poor. Taxes are involuntary.
And plenty of people besides the poor buy lottery tix.

You are willing to pay more for fire insurance on your house than is statistically justified by the small liklihood of having your house burn down.
And people are willing to pay more for a lottery ticket than is statistically justified by the small liklihood of getting rich.
It's a psychological quirk of human nature.

That's a bit different. I just marvel at the people who pump money in week after week. The football analogy works for me - whatever floats your boat. Pursuit of happines and all that!

Yep, a whole $5, for the off hand chance that I may score big. Im guessing you have a zero % chance of winning any lottery. So I have an infinately better chance at winning something than you do. :P I think the word you wanted here was 'infinitesimally.'

There's little difference between throwing money away that could make your life and the lives of your children happier and taking a substance that takes your life from you. Give me your months finances and let me tell you how much you waste on "needless" things that could have went towards bettering your family. Save me your righteous attitude. I spend maybe $5 every 3 or 4 weeks (depending on its size)... WAY better than tabacco
