According to Sid Rosenburg, the Sports guy on the Imus in the Morning program, the Redskins are set to make an announcement today that the former Redskins Coach will be returning to be the new head coach.

Just a week after Steve Spurrier called it quits, the Washington Redskins have a new coach – their old one. Joe Gibbs agreed Wednesday to take charge of the struggling franchise. Gibbs coached the team from 1981-92, winning three Super Bowls along the way before resigning to pursue a career with his own NASCAR team. [link to source]

I want you to name, by name, these "generations of players" that were dealing drugs, beating their wives, etc.

There must be, by the way you bleat, 40 or 50, so I'll make it easy for you.

Name 20 Cowboy players who were drug users or dealers over the last 40 years. Oh, and tell me what evidence you have for naming them.

And, as far as Beathard, keep in mind we're talking about the San Diego Chargers, so its not really the NFL! ;>) He's probably been distracted by the great weather and the beach bunnies out there in Aztlan! Regardless, just getting Gibbs back increases our chances...

Remember the book and movie NORTH DALLAS FORTY. About the Cowboys organization. No, I never had sympathy for Landry either when he got canned. I remember what the GB defense said in reference to the Cowboys. I believe it was Reggie White who said that they play straight up football and don't go from town to town raping and pillaging.

Concerning Dexter Manley, the last I heard he was out of prison. He returned to RFK stadium for the halftime show against the Cowboys in the last appearance of the Skins at RFK - which the Skins won!

That's just the victories! Cowboys 8 appearances, Skins 5, Giants 3, Eagles 1 - that's 17 apearrance from one division - almost half the SuperBowls!

No, I dislike the Cowboys for the reasons I've stated. The Redskins have bitter rivalries with the Giants and Eagles as well, but I respect those franchises. And despite being the winningest team in the NFL for a certain period, how much better could they have been with clean players? Besides, winning does not excuse criminal behavior by the players and the franchise turning a blind eye.

And do you really think that Irvin et al were model citizens under Johnson then all of a sudden went beserk under Switzer? Get real! Also, there were as many criminals on the team under Landry as during any other era. But I guess winning division titles and choking in the playoffs excused all of that! And name another team that has consistently had as many players, over the decades, in trouble with the law as the Cowboys. Even the Raiders look fairly tame in comparison.

He was 11-12 against him during the regular season. I did not put in any playoff stats into any records or analysis just as the NFL doesn't Kilmer breath. If they did that Emmitt Smith would have over 20,000 yards rushing. If you count the Gibbs playoff win then they were 12-12. Still nothing to be excited about. If you can only do .500 at against your supposed rival you would be fired at most places.

Now explain your losses to Parcells when he coached the Giants as he was 10-6 versus the Deadskins. Jim Lachey is the player you are talking about and LT had 28 career sacks versus the Deadskins out of his 132.5 for his career.

Yawn.... wake me up when the Deadskins are tired of being the Cowboys bitch.

Thank you for the update on Dexter. I had always wondered if he had ever conquered his demons and done something with his life. It must be hard not being able to read and write on top of all of his other problems.

Joe Gibbs only political activities over the years have been limited to donating money and helping to raise money for conservative republicans, he has spoken out on some issues and was vocal in supporting a boycott of abercrombie and fitch.

He has talked politics and is pretty well politically connected, He would be considered slightly ahead of Tom Osborne and Steve Largent when they started out in politics.

I remember watching a nationally televised game between the Giants and the Redskins when all the hype was on LT. The pregame show they promised to keep a camera on LT to show us what athletic gifts this superhuman possessed. "The greatest linebacker in the history of the game, making fools of offensive tackles, a terror to opposing quarterbacks, teams change their offenses... yada yada yada" spouted the color guy (I think it was that idiot, Dierdorf, he hated the Redskins)

Well, LT spent the night going up against Joe Jacoby and it wasn't pretty. Jacoby swatted down LT all night long including a few pancakes. Then, late in the game, Jacoby slips and LT gets the sack. Sure enough, "JUST AS ADVERTISED! LT HAS BROUGHT HIS 'A' GAME! YOU CAN'T DEFEND THIS GUY! HE'S SUPERNATURAL!!!" Reminded me of Dickie V.

Trust me, the draft day trade with the Saints (that New Orleans used to get Ricky Williams) more than made up for the Shuler selection.

That and the Cowboys trade of Hershel Walker to the Vikings have to be two of the most lopsided trades in modern NFL history.

Interestingly enough, the one thing I didn't like about Joe Gibbs was that he kept insisting that Theismann could still play despite Joe's obvious inability to hit a short out in less than 1 bounce off the turf.

Thankfully, LT made the decision for Joe Gibbs. I still remember the following play when Art Monk caught a long pass down to the 1-yard line and came back to the huddle with a huge smile like "FINALLY!".

Unfortunately it was Jay Schroeder that threw the ball, but alas, for one night...

Yer right on that one..and it's Theisman. I only know cuz I eat at his restaurant :)

But it used to be Thiesman. He changed it in college in order to make his name sound more like the Heisman trophy. (at his dad's suggestion after they mispelled his name in a report somewhere)
