Well the rumor yesterday was that Mack was going to be forced to fire 4 staff members, and was so livid at that that he was mulling resigning.

So either Mack worked out a deal that saved 3 of his staff, or internet rumors were wrong/exaggerated (methinks the latter is closer to the truth.)

OBTW, Mike Zimmer turned down Nebraska. I laughed until I recalled the Tampa Bay fiasco. I sure hope Nebraska doesn't stumble into a Gruden.

Now they have until Jan. 11, I think, to refile under the new district lines/plan.

I believe I read over the weekend that the deadline is tomorrow. Or maybe that's the deadline to "withdraw" from the old map districts.

The Democrats must be melancholy with this ruling; however, they have a "Republican" ace in their hole: Sandra Day O'Connor.

Well, one thing is for sure. The 'RATS have TWO hurdles to leap regarding SCOTUS: First, SCOTUS has to take the case. Second, SCOTUS would have to overturn all the good work done by the Legislature making a good map, AND ALL the courts that have upheld it to date.

They may not even agree to take the case. If they do, I surely couldn't imagine them turning it away. Just my opinion.

I haven't heard anything about what the vote was on this ruling yet, but I bet it was 3-0.

Talk about a turnaround for a politician. Repubs went from hating Perry for the hate crimes bill and holding their nose and voting for him in '02, to hailing his bravery during the redistricting fight. Perry had about 999 chances to buckle under the pressure from the press and the Dem racket, but he stood firm.

He's earned my respect.

Actually we were both wrong........ It's Jan. 16 according to the Republican Party of Texas web site.....

The candidate filing period for the March 9, 2004 Republican Primary begins December 3 and ends Friday, January 2 for all non-congressional candidates. Those running for U.S. Congress have until Friday, January 16 to file.

Maybe now the House Democrats will run away permanently to Oklahoma, and the Senate will run away permanently to New Mexico.

It was but Ward was a partial concurring and partial dissent... There's a link up the post to the opinion....

The question yet to be fielded is what will the SCOTUS do in the PA case.... that may still impact this in some manner

Hey, do you have one of the runaways pics? especially the one where they are mocking the Reps with socks on their hands?

Let this be a lesson to you dirty work shucking Dems.

Oh, yeah !! ...

As King began his argument for the new congressional boundaries Monday afternoon, about 30 Democrats in the gallery donned white socks as hand puppets to mock King. Every time he spoke, the little white mouths flapped.

I'd say it was 2-1. There were two Republican appointees and one Clinton appointee.

LOLOLOLOL!

thanks! I never saw the McAwful as puppet master one either.

Im so glad their childish tactics didnt work, and that finally justice prevailed on this issue in Texas.

A Sam Houston/huntsville sized Rick Perry statue would look good at the I20 and I35 mixmaster right about now. heheh

Good grief. Texas has 1,607 registered Freepers and only 33 of them have donated?

Man! This is what we have hoped for! If this redistricting stands up for good--and it looks like it will-- we will get rid of some real pond scum in the next election!!!
